Ouguloe

A large, solid rocky ice planet of the Leosus System.

Ouguloe has a fairly strong gravitational field which may pose a hazard for some species looking to set foot on it. However, the planet is most well known for its strange red colour which it gets from a particularly high density of red chemicals in its ice sheets. There are also a number of large craters visible from orbit, created by powerful asteroid impacts. The planet has a fairly weak magnetosphere and low density atmosphere. 

Ouguloe also has a fairly high density of useful common metals compared to other ice planets. The HF has set up mines on this world and continually extract metals from it, teleporting ore into space for further refinement. The low atmosphere pressure, low temperature and high gravity are constant risks to any workers stationed on these mines, so careful procedures must be in place. Despite this, some accidents have happened and people were killed.

The northern and southern hemispheres of the planet seem to be similar but different in makeup. The southern side is of a darker shade of red than the northern side. The reason for this is unknown but it is presumed that 2 equally sized planetoids have collided with each other to form Ouguloe. So far, most geological evidence seems to support this theory, but it is not accepted yet. The northern side of the planet also seems to have a higher elevation variance, and more cliffs and ridges. This makes it harder to find suitable locations for mines but a relatively high tectonic activity allows them to extract materials from a slowly regenerating force...

The planet is also sometimes used for other uses such as highly heat intensive processes. On a planet like Ouguloe, it is easy to cool objects down by pumping ice through it. Its low atmosphere density makes air cooling less efficient despite the low temperature however. This secondary use for the planet is not helpful to the HF because of QEN technology allowing them to cool down almost any object with ease, in almost all locations. 

This planet also, quite notably, has a large asteroid belt around it which is also mostly red in colour and very cold. This has a large number of mining stations on it as well, and can store matter mined from the planet itself. Refinement is usually performed closer to the star for the higher temperature conditions but it can be done anywhere, albeit less efficiently. Because of this, most matter plasma fabrication stations are closer to the sun.

Many planets and planetoids are well defended in the Leosus system, and Ouguloe has a large opportunity in the form of the icy asteroid rings. As such, the Leosus Federation has also built a number of defence platforms within the asteroid belts which should hopefully be able to attack approaching enemy forces by surprise. The defence platforms are well hidden.
