City 28
A large city built by the Hyperion Federation on the Everchanging Dyson Sphere.
City 28 is on a location with particularly rapid environmental changes. As the sphere is made mostly out of nanobots, the city should constantly adapt itself to withstand these constant changes. As such, it has a large dome projector, a unique sort of shield generator which can contain an atmosphere inside itself and keep the inhabitants safe even from threats such as atmospheric temperatures and compositions changing. To counter the threat of nanobots changing the geometry of the ground under the city, it can exploit Graviton Wave Refraction to float at the cost of a large amount on energy. After the ground is changed into its new geometry, the city blocks will be lowered and land back on the ground. It even defends itself against a variety of Rampant Forms which would attack the city, making use of a large variety of weapons in large turrets.
The city is powered much like other cities of the HF, through Planck-Dismantlement Beams and antimatter annihilation cores as a backup. A secondary backup comes in the form of many zero-point generators. As this city is particularly energy intensive however, it will not be able to distribute enough energy around using only its zero-point energy generators (read λ High-Energy Technology) and it even sometimes has to mine materials from the ground to supply its Planck-dismantlement beams with enough matter. The graviton wave refraction keeping the city floated is very energy intensive. This does mean that almost all waste produced by the city is used to power the city, so it also needs to import matter plasma for replicator materials.
City 28 is named such for counterespionage reasons, despite its fairly large population. The population are allowed to speak of the city, so it is not a particularly deep secret, but this makes it harder to identify by enemies of the HF. Some people prefer not to speak about or even mention the name of their city even on HF QEC channels, though the latter case is quite rare.
The city is often used as a base for scientists and explorers to rest and resupply at. Despite its ability to fly it is not mobile and cannot ground itself outside of its predetermined location, but the city grows and as they build more platforms to expand the city, its borders get wider.
