Safe Harbor

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Safe Harbor is Bailshar’s sanctuary within Asgard, a realm of perpetual coastline and eternal tide. Unlike the battlefields of Asgard or the misted tranquility of the Gates of the Moon, Safe Harbor is a place where storm and calm coexist. Its waters reflect Bailshar’s dual nature: tranquil bays where sailors find rest, and tempestuous straits where naval conflict rages endlessly.   Here, the god of sailors, voyages, and naval war shelters those who embrace the thrill of the sea yet honor its dangers. The realm was once a tranquil refuge during the waning days of Menedynn Empire, but after The Gods War and Bailshar’s clash with Merabyss, it hardened into a crucible of salt, steel, and storm.

Geography

Safe Harbor consists of a vast storm-ringed sea dotted with countless isles. The outer reaches are beset with whirlwinds and lightning, eternal reminders of Bailshar’s rivalry with Merabyss. Within the ring lies the Harbor itself: calm waters, gleaming reefs, and ports where ships never rot and sails never tear. It is a mariner’s paradise, if they can reach it through the storm.

Travel and Access

Safe Harbor lies along the rivers of Ysgard, accessible by portals disguised as wells or shoreline arches. From Lune’s Gates, tides sometimes carry travelers directly into Bailshar’s seas, guided by moonlight. Mortals may also arrive in dreams of storm and aurora, waking on Safe Harbor’s decks if Bailshar deems them worthy.

Notable Locations

The Admiral’s Anchorage
A fortified haven where Bailshar’s own flagship lies moored, its sails woven from aurora-light. Here, captains of valor report their voyages and receive blessings.
The Calm Roads
Eternal anchorages where petitioners’ ships drift at perfect rest, lanterns glowing warmly. Here, no storm intrudes.
The Wave-Sword Straits
Narrow passages where Bailshar trains petitioners and allies in naval combat, staging endless mock wars that prepare sailors for the worst of seas.
The Drowned Monastery
Founded by castaways who became Bailshar’s monks, this half-sunken cloister offers meditation chambers, shrines, and bells rung beneath the waves.
Aurora Shoals
Bands of glowing coral where auroral light shimmers through the waves, signaling Bailshar’s presence. Sailors say to follow these lights to safety... or to glory.

Inhabitants

While there are many [riests of Bailshar, who dwell aboard great ships or isle-monasteries, always ready to aid sailors or chart new passages. There also those:
Petitioners of the Sail
Sailors, traders, explorers, and captains who died at sea yet embraced the risk rise here. They serve as crew, pilots, and teachers to newcomers.
Allied Servants
Dolphins, whales, narwhals, and seabirds act as envoys, carrying Bailshar’s moods and omens. His rare favor appears as a silver pigeon; his displeasure, as a raven.
Celestial Allies
Lune’s couriers often arrive with guidance, and Heimdall’s Wardens sometimes accompany sea-watch rites to guard against evil.

Localized Phenomena

Safe Harbor is ringed by the Stormwall, a living barricade of gale and lightning, unless a ship bears Bailshar’s blessing, it must gamble hull and crew to punch through. At quieter hours his presence unfurls as veils of aurora, shimmering curtains that either hush the sea to mirrored glass or, with a subtle turn, rouse it into sudden squall. Sailors whisper of the ghost ship, a pallid vessel forever beating toward the horizon, whose appearance marks a turning point, rescue for some, loss for others. And on ill-starred nights the water bucks against him: currents lurch, black-crested rollers heave out of the deep, omens that Merabyss is pressing her will against the edge of his domain.
