Monoliths of Nighttide

There are no visible entrances, no windows, and no signs of life from without—only an oppressive stillness that presses on the soul. To enter or exit one of the Monoliths, a being must be a petitioner, chosen servant, or supplicant of Nyx, and even then, entry is not guaranteed.   The Monoliths are not anchored in space or time. They drift along secret currents of memory and oblivion, appearing only to those attuned to silence, regret, or revelation. Within, their halls are paradoxically infinite and crushingly claustrophobic. Entire rooms consist of unending darkness. Others are mirrors of long-forgotten memories or unrealized futures that torment those trapped within.   Unlike other divine realms tied to moral alignment or cosmic dominion, the Monoliths are not bounded by allegiance or belief, they are psychological constructs manifested into terrifying permanence by Nyx’s will.  

Inhabitants

The Monoliths hold three types of beings:

Petitioners of Nyx

Souls who surrendered to vengeance, nihilism, or the embrace of secrets. They serve in quiet meditation, shadow rituals, or walk halls without light as part of eternal penance or purpose.  

Servants and Vo'il

Followers and agents of Nyx, both mortal and planar, who carry out her dark will across the multiverse and return here for rest or re-instruction.  

The Imprisoned

those who once prized their liberty above all, now bound in unbreakable oaths or astral traps. Nyx savors their silent despair, watching them lose themselves over aeons, forgotten by the world they once fought to be free in.
