Meridian Concordat
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
The Meridian Concordat is a clockwork-solar tribunal realm where rank, duty, and lawful stewardship are ground into precise reality. Once the Keep of the Eternal Sun of Ixtaar, the realm has been assumed and carefully re-chartered, by Atzul. She governs not as tyrant but as Regent of Mandate, asserting that noble station is a responsibility to serve, audit, and uplift.
At high noon the realm shines with laminar daylight channeled from a brass meridian ring in the sky; at legal dusk, the light cools to argent, revealing glyph-constellations that schedule audiences, audits, and trials. The Concordat’s axioms blend Law, Nobility, and a tempered echo of Sun and Time inherited from Ixtaar’s architecture.
Geography
Notable Locations
The Solar Rostrum
A tiered forum beneath the brass ring where cases of succession, stewardship, and treaty disputes are heard. Voices carry clearly; evasions fall flat. The Rostrum’s stones remember testimony and release it when called by the presiding herald. The Crown-Orrery
A city-sized mechanism of coronets and planetary bands mapping lineages, charters, and bonds of fealty. When a house acts for the common good, its band glows; when it preys upon its people, gears seize and dim.The Hall of Coronets
An inward cloister where would-be rulers undergo four long trials—Temperance, Equity, Prudence, Valor. Those who emerge changed bear a faint, argent circlet only visible at dusk. The Sungild Registry
Endless galleries of charters, patents, verdicts, and treaties, some in Ixtaar’s own hand. The Registry’s attendants can retrieve any faithful record of governance, no matter how obscure, if asked with proper cause.Processional Causeways
Suspended avenues that reconfigure with the realm’s schedule, guiding dignitaries along predetermined routes. Those who walk them learn patience: every destination has its season. The Quiet Annex
A cool reliquary of veiled tablets, the Ultima Lex, Ixtaar’s final clauses. To lift a veil is to accept a duty long neglected somewhere in the world; the veils only rise for those the realm deems capable.Travel and Access
Portals open in mortal halls where duty outweighs vanity. Keys include signet rings borne with humility, charters of service, or tokens of public works completed.Inhabitants
Atzul, Regent of the Meridian
Appears in regal purple, wielding chalice and scepter. She favors restoration and stewardship over punishment.Legates and Auditors
Brass-masked wardens and parchment-robed heralds who guide petitioners and record judgments. The Brass Scriptorium
Living equations and patient scribes who translate between mortal intent and cosmic law.Residual Sunwardens
Silent remnants of Ixtaar’s guard, who now usher audiences and preserve decorum.Scions of Atzul
Mortal clergy who advise nobles and commoners alike, interpreting between human will and axiomatic decree.Localized Phenomena
Meridian Noon / Argent Dusk
Noon magnifies clarity and candor; dusk reveals lineages and obligations in silver light.Clause Echo
Promises spoken leave luminous threads that fray when broken. Written vows here weave themselves into the shadows of their makers.Steward’s Advantage
Acts of protection toward the powerless subtly shift the architecture: doors open, halls shorten, paths ease.History
The halls still bear Ixtaar’s sigils, sun-faces and perfect clauses, though their edges have softened. When Ixtaar’s worship crumbled, the keep dimmed and lay abandoned. Atzul entered as custodian, not usurper, taking oath to preserve its truths while reshaping its spirit. Under her regency, the realm became less a vault of frozen laws and more a tribunal where stewardship is tested and celebrated.
Trait Type |
Description |
|---|---|
| Gravity | Objective directional; set by promenades and causeways. |
| Time | Precise; effects relying on “rounds/minutes/hours” cannot be altered by metamagic or wild surges; delay/haste cannot change initiative order here (they still grant other effects). |
| Shape & Size | Infinite planar volume populated by a countably infinite set of interlocking cogs (each gear typically 1,000+ miles across). Each cog’s habitable faces are finite; the manifold as a whole is unbounded. |
| Morphic Traits | Divinely morphic under Atzul; highly morphic to inevitables and axiomites carrying stamped warrants. |
| Elemental Energy | None Dominant |
| Alignment | Lawful Neutral. |
| Magic | Law, divination (legal/lineage), compulsion (duty), radiance/light, abjuration (oath/ward) are enhanced. While chaos, emotion (hostile), shadow (deception), anarchic summoning are impeded. |
