Mausoleum of Pain

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
The Mausoleum of Pain is a funerary plane-within-a-plane, a dread domain nestled in the barren groves of Pluton. A place where time slips, memories fail, and hope sours into dread, this sepulchral region serves as the sanctum of a nameless entity often referred to in tomes as The Shadowed One.   Within its walls lies the inverted logic of death and undeath, where shadows lengthen but never vanish, and the echoes of the living are preserved only as mockeries.

Geography

Surrounding the Mausoleum is a bone-blasted basin, where jagged, blackened remains of ancient creatures pierce the gray loam like barbed thorns. These bones are razor-sharp and imbued with a lingering malice; traversing this field without protective gear risks not only physical harm but psychological disquiet.   A permanent twilight hangs over the region, casting long shadows that move subtly against the direction of the light. Some claim the shadows whisper.
The Mausoleum itself
The Mausoleum of Pain is an immense obsidian necropolis carved into a titanic slope, resembling a fusion of funerary ziggurat and fortified catacomb. Its exterior is inscribed with runes of despair and unmaking, ever-weeping with black ichor that stains the stone like old blood.   Within its central chamber lies a vaulted hall where hourglasses of black sand float suspended in antimagic voids, each said to represent the extinguishing life-essence of some great, forgotten entity. Though the origin of these relics remains uncertain, many scholars believe they were severed from their rightful places in fate’s tapestry and brought here to fade in silence.   Guarding these timepieces are three ancient horrors, named in grim records as Twilight, Umbra, and Ebony, whose breaths extinguish more than life; they unwrite identity and dissolve memory into shadow.
The Underwarrens
Beneath the Mausoleum sprawls a vast and lightless labyrinth known only as the Warrens Below. Few who descend into these sepulchral depths return. It is here, deep within the echoing black, that the entity known as the Shadowed One is said to reside. Their true nature is debated: a god of entropy, an ascended shadow dragon, or a fragment of Hades itself. What is known is that they toil eternally in blasphemous rites, refining and distilling the essence of death.   Thousands of shadow-wreathed entities linger here... not living, not truly dead... and all serve this unseen master in terrible silence.
The City of Dusk
There exists but one known settlement in this realm: Dusk. Built partially from bone, partially from blackened obsidian, and partially from forgotten memories, Dusk is a city where undeath is law, and the living are hunted, consumed, or remade.   Here, undead roam openly, necromancers barter in soul-husks, and the skies are patrolled by wings of shadow. Those who enter Dusk must surrender something , a memory, a name, or a soul-fragment, just to be allowed to leave again.
