History

At the dawn of mortal death, seven martyrs of law and goodness rose into Heaven and were transfigured as its first tome archons, charged to shepherd each layer. Their line became the Celestial Hebdomad. Of the first seven, only Zaphkiel endures unchanged; the other thrones have passed from martyr to martyr, each successor assuming the form, office, and burdens of the predecessor at the moment of investiture.
