Layout

The brothel’s inner layout, including its private rooms, lounges, corridors, is inconsistent and is completely rearranged every month; it's exterior layout is also subject to change, but almost always includes two main tents and an outdoor public area with ample lighting.   The practice of rearranging the brothel’s layout was started in order to prevent stalking by customers, who would often harass courtesans in their rooms or wait for them by the exits.   The courtesans, who are all registered members of Panta's Courtesans Guild, have to adapt to the shifting “architecture”. The newest employees often find this confusing and disorienting, making the first few months an especially rough start.   Those who work in the brothel for a longer while have developed a culture of seniority; the most senior courtesan gets to choose their room first, followed by the second most senior, and so on. Courtesans who still fail to navigate in new layouts do not get to choose their room, and are assigned one by the management.   The layout shift also allows for another avenue of promotion for a courtesan, the role of bedsetter. A bedsetter is privy to the planing phase of new layouts, and each is given an area of responsibility - customers, theme/aesthetics, public spaces, and secratery; there are usually three to four bedsetters.   The brothel also provides lodging but poses a harsh restriction on how much private property can be kept by a courtesan on their person and in their room. Any belongings that are prohibited are kept in a safe by the madame, in an unknown location.
