Beastfolk

The Night of Beasts forever changed the world of Thelekar, marking the emergence of the beastfolk. During Creighton's rebellion, the vengeful void goddess set her sights upon the Tarrastov Spire under the rule of the nature goddess Vydona. Creighton's attack was brutal and violent, causing the Moon Druids dedicated to Vydona to undergo horrible mutations. The animal totems throughout the forest rotted and decayed, causing the druids bound to them to become one with their spirits. These shifting beasts were feral and mindless, driven to the brink of death as their bodies ripped and tore, growing to resemble the spirit of the totem nearest them. Wolves, bears, lions, elephants, Tarrastov had become a veritable zoo of screaming semi-beasts. In the middle of this horrible affliction, Vydona bound herself with Creighton, imprisoning both of them in a hidden realm far from her dying children. With the source of this change taken out of the material plane, the shift ended abruptly, leaving the surviving druids as the first generation of half beasts.   Some finished their transformation before the end, resulting in a number of sentient animal tribes wandering the stem. Others were meant to endure a far more excruciating change, and thus only partially shifted, giving rise to the Shifter species. Most common, however, were the Beastfolk. Intelligent, bipedal half-beasts that could speak, write, and read, suddenly found themselves with bodies more dangerous than a fully armed soldier. They had to learn to rebuild their society in their new bodies, and also prepare themselves for whatever foreign powers would soon take an interest in this fractured society.   Unlike a majority of the different races spread throughout Thelekar, the origin of the Beastfolk is a major historical event that is told to children as a scary story. Thanks to this, many nations went out of their way to destroy Tarrastov before it could be rebuilt, causing some tribes to splinter and spread across the continents, forming multiple different kingdoms and societies. While most tribes crossed the mountains and built their safe haven in the Lorain Jungles, some crossed the ocean and grew roots in Ardina, while others stayed within Tarrastov to defend their ancestral home.
