Werebeasts

Werebeasts

Werebeasts, sometimes called Man Beasts, are individuals capable of transforming into animalistic hybrid forms. Unlike traditional shapeshifters, Werebeasts are tied to a specific creature, such as wolves, bears, or cats, and inherit supernatural traits along with their monstrous forms.

They are found across many regions of Yanu, though their presence and form vary by culture, race, and continent.

Origins

All Werebeasts ultimately owe their existence to Ynue Bo-Rak, the god of the hunt. His original intention was to create elite wolf-warriors, the werewolves, as champions of his divine will. But over time, this blessing (or curse) evolved, diversified, and spread far beyond its intended bounds.
New types of Werebeasts emerged over time, particularly on the continent of Armir, where the Felmen people venerate Bo-Rak and his kin. The Felmen have developed their own unique traditions and bloodlines tied to Werebeast transformations.

Werebeast Lineages

While werewolves remain the most well-known, especially across Veskar, many other types of Werebeasts exist. Each type typically reflects the creature sacred or emblematic to the people of that region.

Werewolves

Among all races, the wolf is Bo-Rak's favorite. They exhibit exceptional strength, enhanced senses, and night-based resilience.

Felmen & The Beast Form

Among the Felmen races, each has a genetically inherited transformation known as the beast form — a specific Werebeast shape tied to their bloodline. This ability is exceedingly rare, passed down on the maternal side through a recessive gene. According to Felmen belief, it was a divine gift from Lita, the Mother Bear, given to safeguard her people.

Felmen with the beast form are both honored and hunted. While they serve as elite soldiers and peacekeepers under clerical or governmental orders within their own nation, they are prized prey for the Nalsai, as well as other enemies of Felmeria. Their strength makes them targets for assassination. As a result, many die young, casualties of both battle and conspiracy.

Werebears & The Blood of Mother Bear

The Werebear is the rarest of all Felmen-born beast forms. This sacred trait is known as the Blood of Mother Bear. Unlike other were-forms, it is not passed genetically, but through a brutal apprentice ritual: the current bearer of the blood is drained to death, and their successor must bathe in and drink their blood to complete the transference.

Only one Werebear exists per Felmen race at a time. They are living legends — unmatched in raw strength and revered as chosen vessels of Lita’s divine will.

Death & Afterlife

All Werebeasts are claimed upon death by Bo-Rak, who draws them into his eternal hunting ground: Valthara. There, they live on as both predator and prey — locked in endless pursuit across a wild and sacred spiritual landscape.

This afterlife is considered honorable by many Werebeast cultures — a final reunion with their divine origin.

Base Powers

All Werebeasts, regardless of type, share several core traits:

Extended Lifespans: Aging slows drastically once the beast form manifests.
Enhanced Physicality: Great strength, endurance, and heightened senses.
Resilience: Resistance to most poisons, venoms, and diseases.

Beast-Specific Traits

Each variant of Werebeast comes with unique strengths based on their animal origin:

Werewolves – Exceptional hearing and smell; hunters of the night.
Werebears – Unmatched strength and endurance, even among Werebeasts.
Werecats – Superior agility, reflexes, and night vision.
Werehogs – Heaviest and most physically durable, with vicious tusks.
Wereapes – Agile climbers with powerful nails and instinctive coordination.
Wererats – Weakest physically, but possess unmatched regenerative ability, making them extraordinarily hard to kill.
