Veskaren Rivers

The Yavin River

The Yavin River is the longest in the world, Some are wider, and some have more water flowing through them, but the Yavin River spans the furthest on the globe. It splits the Yavinian plain in two, and it is the artery that carries the lifeblood of trade and civilization from one end of the region to the other. Its many tributaries bring wealth and civilization to the people that live on them, and its many fish, feed all who live near it.

Geography

The starting point of this river is in the black mountains, a small stream that grows to become the upper Yavin River, it is met by other rivers from the same mountains, and further down, it meets the Rend River, its first major tributary, which also found its start in the black mountains, although much further north.
Its second major tributary is the north Yavin River, which finds its start in the Dendorian Mountains.

All these rivers come together with many smaller tributaries, to finally find their end in the white sea, at the Yavin River delta, where the great port city of Makreigh was constructed by the first who recognized this place's strategic importance.

Fauna

Many fish call this river their home, some reside here permanently, and others come here seasonally to spawn.
One example of such seasonal fish is salmon, which prefer the northern branch of the Yavin River, and use the foothills of the Dendorian Mountains as their mating grounds each spring.

Pike are the permanent inhabitants of the upper Yavin, especially, but can also be found in some regions of the Rend River and most of the lower Yavin. Trout can be found in all the river's regions, while catfish can be found only in the lower regions of the river.

Marn River

The Marn River is well known for two things: its width and its trade.
Its banks have formed the borders between the human and elven lands for millennia, whether it be those from the northern or the southern branch of this river.
Both rivers are navigable, but not forever. For both of them, a short distance after entering the forest, the terrain shifts, and the rivers become rife with rapids and frequent waterfalls, barring any traders from going further land inwards.

Geography

The Marn has three main branches, but the northern marn is considered to be the main one. It starts in the marnen plateau, before falling down numerous sets of ridges, filling many small lakes, until it reaches the lowlands.
The southern marn has a very similar story, except it originates from the Caraethina highlands.
The third major branch originates from yet another mountain range, the black mountains, and is called the Grey River, after the color of its clay.
The River delta is in the hands of the Enyanians, who have built the great port city of Aenyth there, but the Isich also benefit greatly from its plenty, particularly across the grey river, but also in the form of a stopover point for traders.

Fauna

These rivers host a great variety of fish, but some of the more common include southern pike, bream, and catfish. Further upriver, in the two marn rivers, there are also the marnen eel.
The northern marn also has a variety of fish living in its small lakes, which occasionally make a trip downstream.

Lethi River

This river may not be the longest, but it transports by far the most water of any river in Veskar. All of its major tributaries originate from the Caraethina highlands, and they flow in unison towards the white sea, exiting in the Serpent Strait.
This river grows a lot in width during the wet season, rising around two meters above its normal banks throughout the year.

Geography

Still, it is almost entirely navigable, with the elevation of the rivers barely changing until they approach the highlands.
The banks of the rivers are flat, but not for long, as they are all surrounded by steep increases in elevation, towards the main enyanian basin above. This geography is the reason why most enyanians live next to the river, although far enough away to avoid getting their feet wet in the wet season. As well as the small, relatively flat banks next to the river.

Fauna

This river is one of the most diverse in biological life, most ever living under its muddied current, invisible.
Most notable are the piranhas, known for their sharp teeth, more popular for consumption, however, are the piranha's cousin, Pacu, as well as Sabalo.
There also live many crocodiles in the river, as well as river dolphins, which both hunt the aforementioned fish, as well as many others.

Sineel River

The Sineel River system is one of many. Most of its tributaries come together not through regular meetings, but by flowing into the same large lakes.
This river system is largely navigable, although larger ships have trouble further upstream, where they become too shallow. Smaller river barges can go much further, though.
In winter, not even these barges can navigate here, though, because this river freezes over entirely in the winter, as well as all the lakes.

Geography

This system largely exists in dendor, but the kingdom of westingham owns its delta, on which they built the port city of Isnaburg.
This forces the northerners to go through westingham if they want to get their wares on the open market, which has frequently prompted them to invade the region, never with much long-term success.

Fauna

Seasonally, this river is filled with salmon because this is one of the fish's main spawning regions. Each upper branch of fish has a slightly different type of salmon that returns every year, and each dendorian tribe swears that their salmon is the tastiest. The bears don't seem to be nearly as picky, and they can be seen hunting these fish across all of its tributaries.
