The Flamekeepers
The Flamekeepers are the Neri who have been admitted by the The Hall of Memory and assigned a role in the protection and cultivation of Neri history and culture.
As each Neri is admitted to the Hall, they are asked to choose from a selection of Resting Bowls, which contain the memories of past Neri, stored through the Neri's ability to reserve stories in flames. Depending on which Resting Bowl they choose, the Neri is assigned a different purpose. It is believed that fate determines the selection of the Resting Bowl in each Neri's case, and Neri rarely break from their roles.
The Neri know that maintaining their stored flames is more important than finding new Neri, so approximately two thirds of Neri are left behind to Tend the flames and maintain the Hall, while the other third head out into the world to find other Neri and bring them back to store their memories.
