Dark Forest
Geography
The Dark Forest covers the entire western half of Merterra with untamed wilderness. Bordered by the Tomidic Mountains on the east and open ocean on the west, the Dark Forest is a treacherous place full of old trees, mysterious swamps, and dangerous ruins. The high canopy of thick leaves gives the place its memorable name, as they block out most sunlight, leaving the forest floor in a state of near-perpetual twilight.
Ecosystem
The Dark Forest is a very wet place, with much of the forest considered more of a swamp than a proper forest. Being on the windward side of the Tomidic Mountains , it gets significantly more rain than the plains on the east side of the continent. This results in many amphibious animals, and plants that thrive in the wet.
Fauna & Flora
Without a doubt, the Dark Forest is the most biologically diverse region on the continent. It is home to hundreds of plant species found nowhere else on the continent, as well as many unique species of animals.
