The Portal
When the first stranger from another world came through to The World Behind, they dropped out of seeming nothingness into the middle of a city, and it caused quite a stir. It remained a rare occurrence until the last 300 years, when rates of other-worldly incursions began to increase, with both miscellaneous goods and people appearing, frequently in places that it was not positive for their health to appear in. The researchers who would later found the University of The Other realized something needed to be done about this, if it was going to happen ideally these individuals from the other world needed to show up in the same place every time where it would be safe, and in a fashion that alerted the Saurians to their impending arrival. What would become the portal was experimented on for decades with mixed success, but a little over 100 years ago cracked the puzzle, grabbing any incoming matter larger than light and focusing it south of Promenade.
The portal, technically, is more like a one way funnel. Many new arrivals to The World Behind spend years looking for the magical secret to turning the magic into a doorway instead, but so far none have been successful. The courtyard the portal has been build in has expanded over time, now it's no longer just the stone and grass landing pad, there are welcome buildings, rooms for those who need time to adjust, specialists who are theoretically familiar with what non-Saurian arrivals are going through, and of course some non-Saurians make the choice to stay and help others who end up there.
