It Takes a Village Foundation

A charity organization that provides assistance to Willowmoor's orphans.

Structure

The organization is run by a board of directors with each holding a different job, none more important than another. The Captain oversees things, meets with the village leadership, and provides a tie-breaking vote as the 5th member of the group. The First Officer fills in a lot of odd roles, but their most important is conducting the meetings. The Liasson works with the public and handles the Foundation's image. The Scribe records the meetings and publishes notices while the Bursar manages the purse and/or resources.

Additional help is provided by volunteers.

Culture

The most important belief of the Foundation is that all children should be raised with love and dignity, treated like humans while guided and cared for by parental figures. One half of the reason Rhea started the organization was to provide a human rights platform for the children of the village - orphaned or not.

Public Agenda

The Foundation has two guiding principles that it proudly touts: 1) Uplifting and caring for Willowmoor's orphans, and 2) Fighting for the rights of all the children of Willowmoor.

Assets

The Foundation's prized assets are the volunteers that proudly help out without expecting anything in return for their service. Willowmoor is lucky to have so many parental figures - women and men alike - willing to help the neediest of the children in the village.

Furthermore, since ITAV was founded by Rhea, she uses her locally famous partner's influence to establish the charity perhaps a bit more quickly than if she didn't have Adam's pull...

History

Rhea first had the idea to start a charity for the orphaned of Willowmoor long before her community knew they would call themselves that. At the start of the apocalypse, they lived in an arena in a bombed out city for a few months, and that's where she met the first orphans: teenagers and latchkey kids who found their way from the nearest houses and shopping centers, though their parents did not. She wished she had the power to do something back then, but even though she was already attached to Adam, he hadn't yet gained any notoriety. The community was in the thousands and the self-proclaimed leadership were more about running the place efficiently than caring for the downtrodden. After all, everyone in there was downtrodden.

When the survivors left the arena and traveled miles across the continent to find a place of safety, Rhea once again thought of the orphans, whose number had only grown. A fresh onslaught of bombs had sent the community fleeing, causing so many casualties their number dwindled to a couple thousand. Rhea and Adam were even part of the leadership by this point, but now they simply lacked the resources. The goal of the caravans had to be surviving to the location where they would build Willowmoor, even though half of their number had no such luck, creating new orphans even then...

Finally, with the safe place found, the building of village underway, and Willowmoor's government set up, Rhea could bring up the Foundation in a meeting with the village elected. It would still be some time before it became official, though. There was a lot to build and everyone was needed - including many of the teenaged orphans. Rhea worked with volunteers to find the teens support amongst the jobs they took, and she worked with other parents to find care for the younger orphans. That's said to be the start of the Foundation since for the first year or so of its existence, that's all Rhea could do, and she did it - quietly, without complaint, without expecting anything in return.

Eventually, the Foundation was granted its legitimacy and it formed its first board of directors, of which Rhea humbly accepted the role of Captain.

It takes a village to raise a child, and Willowmoor will do it with dignity and love.
