Ramos's Reach
A mountain mine that was reconstructed into a stone fortress to combat Darum the Black Scourge. It would be the site of the final battle against the dragon and serves today as a historic site of remembrance.
Ramos’s Reach is a rugged and imposing mountain mining town with a storied history, perched high on the rocky slopes of the Emberpeak Range. Once known primarily for its wealth of precious metals and ores, the town transformed over time from a bustling industrial hub to a fortified bastion of defiance against one of the most fearsome creatures to ever plague the region: a dragon named Darum. The town was built into the mountain itself by ancient Freewind denizens before the kingdom could even be known as Drakengard. It has multi-leveled terraces connected by winding stone staircases and sturdy wooden bridges. Its architecture is a testament to its mining roots and later role as a fortress. Buildings are carved directly into the rock or constructed from reinforced stone, their designs both functional and intimidating. Thick, black iron reinforcements, remnants of its metal-rich past, fortify walls, gates, and towers. Ramos’s Reach began as a thriving mining settlement, extracting iron, silver, and other metals that fueled the region’s industry and trade. The wealth of the mines attracted workers, merchants, and opportunists, transforming the town into a bustling hub of activity. That prosperity came to a fiery halt when Darum, a massive, flame-breathing dragon, descended upon the Emberpeak Range. Drawn by the mines' wealth and the workers' vulnerability, Darum turned Ramos’s Reach into a charred battleground. The dragon’s attacks were relentless, reducing much of the town to rubble and forcing survivors to seek refuge within the mountain’s depths. Under the leadership of a visionary mayor, Calden Ramos, the town shifted its focus from mining to defense. Using the resources still available in the mines, the townsfolk forged weapons, armor, and fortifications, gradually turning Ramos’s Reach into an impenetrable fortress. The battle against Darum lasted for months, with each modification improving upon the defenses and learning from the creature’s attacks. The final confrontation came when a coalition of miners, blacksmiths, and warriors—led by Ramos’s family and the mysterious hero known only a The Watcher marched forth to face the beast. Ramos's kin were armed with weapons forged out of the metal of the very throne inside the main guildhall. After a legendary battle, Darum would be dealt a grievous blow by The Watcher and crash land into the spires near Ramos's Reach after trying to take a flight to escape, perishing there. The people of Ramos’s Reach are a hardy, pragmatic folk, deeply proud of their resilience and ingenuity. Their culture blends the grit of their mining heritage with the martial traditions forged during their long struggle against Darum. The Ramos family name still runs the fortress, now fully used as both a supplementary military base for Drakengard and a historical site.
