Oka
The home of the defleo hidden in a misty enchanted patch of forest. Known and referred to abroad as Detoya. Founded by the original seven demon pillars, it is meant to be a sanctuary for their kind. They cautiously and selectively trade with other Yorn communities.
Hidden deep within a perpetually foggy forest, Oka, or as it's known abroad, Detoya, is a city of refuge and resilience, a haven for those who have long been hunted and misunderstood. Its inhabitants, a race of half-humans, have carved out a peaceful existence in their misty sanctuary. Despite their demonic heritage and the historical association with the Seven Deadly Sins, the Defleo are no more malevolent than any other people, their misunderstood origins casting a long shadow over their lives. Oka is their first and only true home away from the eyes of others. Oka lies in the heart of a forest where the fog never lifts, an eternal veil that cloaks the city from prying eyes and would-be invaders. The ancient and towering trees form a natural barrier, their branches woven together like a living fortress. Within this misty haven, Oka thrives in secret. The city is a blend of demonic grandeur and humble practicality. Obsidian and dark stone buildings are adorned with intricate carvings, glowing faintly with protective runes. Vine-covered bridges and wooden walkways connect structures, their designs seamlessly blending with the forest. At night, the fog takes on an ethereal glow, lit by enchanted lanterns that dot the city. This gives Detoya an otherworldly appearance, like a city suspended in a dream. An ancient spell curated and upkeep by a league of trusted ancient defleo surrounds the city, weaving the mist with magic to deter outsiders. Only those guided by a Detoyan or carrying a special token of trust can find their way through the forest’s labyrinthine paths.
The scars of persecution run deep, and Detoyans are wary of strangers, and the city's hidden guardians watch over their successors dutifully. However, those who prove themselves trustworthy are welcomed with cautious warmth and offered a glimpse into the city's rich culture. Detoyan elders pass down stories of their ancestor's life journeys and persecution, teaching the younger generations to value their sanctuary while understanding the world beyond the mist. Detoya is ruled by a Council of Seven, each a full-blooded demon whose essence is tied to one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Far from the corrupt beings of myth, these demons are wise and benevolent leaders, treating the citizens like their own children. Each embodies their associated sin not as a flaw but as an essential part of existence, creating balance and harmony within the city. Detoyans are skilled crafters, producing enchanted tools, jewelry, and rare medicinal herbs cultivated in the misty forest. These are traded with a few neighboring communities that have earned their trust. Art is a cornerstone of Detoyan life. Murals, sculptures, and music often incorporate demonic imagery reimagined in hopeful and celebratory tones, reclaiming their heritage from its negative connotations.
Detoya is a legend for most outsiders—a city of demons in the mist, whispered about in fearful tones. This aura of mystery protects the city but also perpetuates the prejudice its people have long faced. Detoya is a place of paradox—a city born of darkness that strives for light, a people burdened by fear who live with extraordinary kindness. The citizens of Detoya walk a delicate path, balancing their demonic heritage with their desire to live peacefully in a world that struggles to understand them. For those who venture into the mist and earn their trust, Detoya reveals itself as a place of profound beauty, resilience, and redemption—a beacon of hope hidden in the forest's shadows.
