FEX Recording

While standard digital recording, either two or three dimensional, is still nearly dominant as a form of media capture, but FEX Recording has a very particular and rather popular niche. when experiencing a FEX, the viewer doesn't only see through the recorder's eyes, but feels every possible sensation, feeling, and even thoughts - all of these potential experiences can be edited, including heightening, lowering, or simply muting particular senses. The most common use for this is heightened instant escapism, with little to no effort required to feel the highs of intense action, or the deep pleasure of lying with another.   However, the utility of FEX isn't simply just for recreation, as the ability to know exactly what a person was feeling, doing, and thinking is excellent evidence in legal systems; the ability to feel how a car drives is perfect for sales; the full immersion of a lecture; the view of a fighting solider from 100 years back; the cataloging and reliving of memories; being able to literally step into someone else's shoes - a technology like no other.

FEX Recording can be performed via a HUD Visor extension, but also internal implants. Those with these devices can begin recording a FEX at any time, with any settings, ranging from extremely basic software to highly advanced mid-recording editing. Some may even have non-stop constant recording in the background, only permanently saving the last few minutes or hours at the press of a button.   More advanced recordings can easily be made, emotions, thoughts, sensations themselves controlled down to the minute details - from movies to propaganda, almost anything can be done, but generally, the truly empathetic and skilled can feel that slight tinge of "wrongness;" it's never quite real, and you can always tell. Even with highly advanced AI algorithms, a literal Jupiter Brain's worth of power, a FEX can never seem to feel completely real, just like The Phaneron. There's that extremely small feeling of... nothing - a lack of true complexity.
