Dragons
Basic Information
Anatomy
Dragons Draconus volatia average four legs with primary weight placed on the back many are capable of stand on two for short periods of time. they are scaled and can be any colour under the sun their eyes can be any colour and they can have anywhere from two to six eyes. dragons have elaborate horns crowning their heads males have longer straighter horns where as females have curled ridged horns.
Dragons have an extra set of limbs in the wings which are membrane wings usually these wings have a 'thumb' or claw on the wings or a flat edge on the wings they often use this as a point of balance.
Dragons also have a tail that is an average of at least half their body length and up to twice the length of the body it can have a variety of additions like spines going the length or a thagomizer some have even been observed to have fins or blades on their tails
Growth Rate & Stages
Dragon eggs once laid take up to two years to hatch and once hatched they are considered infants until ten years have passed they are then able to be considered adults by the bureau of classification these two stages can be further subdivided into five categories these categories are hatchling, sparkling, blazeburn, full grown, elder as a dragon ages the scale pigments slowly lighten and desaturate the oldest dragons that are still alive are almost completely white with only the horns maintaining their colour
Ecology and Habitats
Draconus Volatia can survive a wide range of temperatures but prefer deciduous forest and open plains. Dragons prefer to reside in places where they can spread their wings.
Dragons often dig into the the ground to prepare a nest. They remove all debris before 'torching' the area blasting the ground with whatever breath weapon they possess they then scrape the topsoil off the area before dragging debris to decorate the nest. The nests are often located in intermediate elevations usually covered from the air to hide it from others
Dietary Needs and Habits
Dragons dependent on subspecies are omnivores with a need for a higher meat intake. Dragons primarily hunt for food able to remain on the trail of prey for up to three weeks at a time though during this time they will need to find prey to sustain themselves dragons do not need that much water and are able to go for up to seven days without water once the food is caught dragons fly or drag it back to their nest before stripping and consuming the plant or animal.
Biological Cycle
as the year progresses and we reach the colder months dragons start shedding their scales starting with the head before ending with the tail. They are required to do this otherwise the scales will build up slowing them down and preventing flight.
Behaviour
Dragons are generally peaceful creature unless a family member or significant member of the settlement has been killed, harmed or captured at that point you are already dead as they will not surrender this is how the fifth great war spiraled into the calamity it is now. Dragons are also ruthless when hunting they do not let prey escape them being sent into a rampage when hunting.
