Vrd-Kalron
In the black depths on the seafloor, near the terrible cities of the sahuagin, rest great domes wreathed in light. Beneath these domes are the cities of the Empire of Triton. The greatest of these cities is their capital. Vrd-Kalron.
Demographics
The population of Vrd-Kalron is almost completely made up of tritons. Most non-tritons are apprentices at the magical academy, and are not true imperial citizens. Few visitors ever come to the city as it is not welcoming to outsiders.
Government
As capital, the government of Vrd-Kalron is the government of the empire itself. As such Empress Caestra Lovre rules the city with total authority. Assisting her are representatives of lesser noble houses. The imperial government also consists of an extensive beauracracy that oversees a great many tasks such as taxation and record keeping.
Defences
Taking the capital of the tritons would be a monumental undertaking for any invading force. Not only is it centrally located in the empire, but it is also very well defended. The primary defense is the dome built around the city. Any attackers would have to breach it or risk the one very heavily guarded entrance.
Even if invaders made it into the city, their conquest still wouldn't be simple or easy. The streets and open water are heavily patrolled by soldiers. To make things even more difficult, the mages and apprentices of the academy can bring all of their magical might, which is considerable together, to bear on their enemies.
According to rumor, if the city is ever taken, an enchantment in the dome can collapse it, burying the conquerors in hundreds of tons of rubble.
Infrastructure
The city is built inside a massive stone dome. Many of the buildings are large towers with spires on the top. They are built not only up from the ground but also down from the dome.
At the center on the ground is the imperial palace, a large castle that contains everything the emperor needs for a protracted siege. Directly above it on the top of the dome is the academy, a massive complex that includes numerous classrooms and labs as well as dorms for the apprentices and instructors.
Guilds and Factions
Vrd-Kalron is home to the usual assortment of trade guilds required to keep a city running. The primary standout is the magical academy. Strangely, the academy has no actual name, only being referred to as "the academy" by locals and "the Vrd-Kalron Academy" elsewhere. Anyone with the proper aptitude for magic can receive a quality education there, but perspective apprentices must agree to a five-year commitment to the imperial military.
History
When the tritons left the Plane of Water through the Gate of Lost Tears, they traveled a short distance and began building their city. This city was named "Vrd-Kalron", and it would be the first of many.
Construction was overseen by a man named Teldair Lovre, who quickly proved himself an effective leader. The sahuagin attacked when their capital was little more than a village, but under Teldair's leadership the tritons fought them off easily. His descendents were chosen to rule in honor of his bravery.
In just two generations, the dome was risen in Vrd-Kalron. The sahuagin have tried multiple times to take it, and always failed. So the city has stood for millennia against all comers, and has never fallen.
