The Guardians of the Galaxy faced Ronan the Accuser on the Dark Aster, but found he was too strong to physically fight. They were saved when Rocket shot out the ship's engines, causing the Aster to crash into the surface of Xandar.
The Guardians survived thanks to Groot, who constructed a wooden shield to protect his friends.
