Podspace

A large red sun sits in the middle of Podspace, surrounded by several thousand island-sized asteroids orbiting around it in various patterns. There are no planets in Podspace and little natural life.

In 1474, the vampirate Captain Flynt Locke and his Freebooters established a base in Podspace. With massive nets and harpoons, the pirates began killing most of the migrating kindori, selling their blubber and fat for coin and transforming their skeletons in Skeleton Ships for Flynt's undead forces. To create a permentant base for them among the system, Locke's Freebooters began leashing together several asteroids and combining them with the hulls of decrepit ships. This makeshift capital that they named Libertatia became a near lawless settlement of drink, sport, and debauchery.   During the Imperial Elven Navy][Second Unhuman War, Locke's Freebooters were first hired by the Scro to attack Imperial Elven vessels before attacking the Scro in turn when the coin dried up. All the while, Captain Locke continued growing the undead defenses of Podspace.   Since the end of the Second Unhuman War, Podspace has been viewed as a powderkeg among the residents of the Rapide Frontier. Nearly all upstanding individuals want the Freebooters gone, but none are willing to commit to the large scale battle necessary to do it.

Those that visit Podspace do so only with good reason, either to beseech Captain's Flynt's aid, to offer a gift, or to join the Freebooters. Those that do visit will never find a more rowdy group nor a more dangerous one. All of this is encapsulated in the Freebooters' leader, Captain Flynt, whose charming personality makes it a toss of a coin whether or not he will slap a hand or a knife in your back.
