Gardenspace
Gardenspace, sometimes just referred to as the Garden, is an inhabited crystal sphere located within the Rapide Frontier.
Gardenspace is connected to Mindspace via an two-way Phlogiston current, downstream from Mirrorspace, and upstream of Emberspace.
Though Gardenspace only has one planet, Kadesh, it is filled with numerous "living," freefloating planetoids that are in fact megafauna so large as to support their own atmosphere and eco-system. This makes travel through Gardenspace difficult, as large portions of the sphere are as hazardous as asteroid belts without their predictability.
Localized Phenomena
The many planetoids that float freely around the wildspace of the Garden are all megafauna that are capable of supporting an atmosphere and life. These planetoids, referred to as the garfasi (sing. garfas) can sustain life, which then grow on their backs and feed nutrients back into the "soil" of their epidermis. At times, two of the planetoids can start fueds with one another or decide to mate. These actions can prove dangerous to the creatures on their body as a result of injury or vigorous shaking.
The braxat that call Gardenspace home have created outposts and colonies on many of the planetoids. The names of these settlements often become the names of the planetoid itself
History
In the late 12th century, the native braxat population of Kadesh began tentatively venturing out of their homeworld to explore the rest of Gardenspace, establishing colonies on the largest of the planetoids. Though they have interacted with many spelljammers, even taking some for their own, the Braxat appear generally content to live in the verdant paradise of their home sphere, which can support their large appetites and traditional way of life.
In 1485, the Scro Tarantula Fleet retreated into Garden Space near the end of the Second Unhuman War, pursued by a large fleet of the Imperial Elven Navy. The Scro captains and admiral of the Tarantula Fleet believed they could use the chaotic unpredictability of Gardenspace's living planetoids to force the IEN into a close-range engagement, which favored the Scro.
The resulting Battle of Gardenspace was the costliest of the entire war, as the entire Tarantula Fleet and every vessel in the pursuing IEN fleet, save one, was destroyed. Rather than act as floating obstacles, the living planetoids instead sought out the two attacking sides one the battle grew fiercest, seemingly intent on defending their sphere. This, combined with an unwillingness to yield from both the Scro and the IEN, sealed both fleets' fate.
In the years since the Battle of Gardenspace, many fortune hunters, pirates, adventurers and scavengers have descended upon the sphere, hoping to recover treasure and weapons from the destroyed fleets. This has been met aggressively by the braxat, angered by the intrustion into their home. Many of the destroyed spelljammers and useful materials have also since fallen onto the living planetoids or the massive and overgrown Kadesh, and rumors swirl that the IEN and Scro carried horrible weapons with them that would best be left undisturbed. Despite the risks, many still attempt to brave the sphere's dangers, lured by the promise of riches or power.
