Ava's Tower (building)
Ava's Tower, formerly Xonthal's Tower, is a mage tower that serves as the center of the town of the Ava's Tower. It is so named for the former Breadwinner Ava of the Wilds, who currently resides there.
Purpose / Function
The tower was originally built by Xonthal in 1347 to have a secluded place to perform his research and test magical instruments. Through three uses of the spell Wish, he created a hedge maze that surrounded the tower that risked trapping anyone inside that didn't know the correct path to follow.
Architecture
The interior of the tower contains multiple floors, each of which can only be accessed with a teleporter. The teleporter contains multiple runic style depictions, each one a button that leads to one floor.
The basement of the tower is where Xonthal performed most of his magical experiments and remained untouched after his death until found by the Breadwinners. There, Xonthal created an astral hallway, that simulated the feeling of walking through space, a room to bind an Efreet, a room where Xonthal experimenting with time, such as hourglasses that potentially allowed one to see forward or backwards in time, and more.
After Ava moved into the tower, she turned one of the basement rooms into a wine cellar.
History
In 1347, Xonthal built his tower to begin his magical experiments in secret. This seclusion did not last long, and within a couple years a small village sprung up around the tower and its hedge maze, hoping to live in the relative safety of the tower's shadow.
Between 1356-57, Zhentarim agents from Darkhold Keep attempted to take the tower by force, hoping to seize its wealth and magic for themselves. Each and every attack of theirs was rebuffed.
In early 1492, during the Great Dragon War, Xonthal's Tower was occupied by members of the Cult of the Dragon, who were using the magic of the tower to study the Helm of the Red Dragon, and protected by the blue dragon Lennithon However, one of the cultists, Iskander, grew disaffected with the cult and attempted to defect to the Council of Waterdeep in mid-1492.
This prompted the Breadwinners to arrive, and the group managed to infiltrate the tower, where they found that Iskander had been discovered and killed. The adventurers recovered the Helm of the Red Dragon, but in leaving the tower they were attacked by Lennithon, who managed to steal the helmet back and escape. The fight with Lennithon destroyed a decent portion of the village, and the people there asked the Breadwinners to help them rebuild. Ava of the Wilds promised to do so, and returned in late 1492 to make good on her promise. Finding the isolation and safety of the tower and village comforting, Ava chose to settle down. In 1493, both the village and tower were renamed to Ava's Tower.
