Goblin
Goblins, sometimes called Goblin-kind or Grobrox by themselves, are the base for goblinoids. Goblinoid being the name for the species, goblins are highly volatile and prone to sudden mutation depending on their environments: for instance, a goblin subjected to a harsh wilderness environment may mutate into a bugbear; a goblin which spends time leading in a military environment may mutate into a hobgoblin; a goblin spending much time with magic may mutate into a nilbog.
The base goblin is a hardy, resilient creature. Due to small vocal chords, their voices are often high-pitched, and they often have high amounts of energy, leading many to claim they are inherently chaotic (and evil), though neither is true. Goblins are the most numerous race in all of the Spire.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Goblins are agendered though are often gendered as male by others, leading to the misconception that they are all male. Goblins can choose a gender identity, ignore it, or simply become acclimated to whatever they are called.
Genetics and Reproduction
Goblins are agendered and asexual, though capable of romantic love. A goblin reproduces asexually during a complicated three-month estrus cycle, wherein they reproduce a small amount of viable sexual material in an egg. A host of bacteria live within the goblin, who is an entire complex factory of genetic material. Via horizontal transfer of the sexual material, the bacteria are able to provide sufficient new genetic material to keep the species going. A goblin in the wild functions like a blank cell and will intake material from organic materials all around it.
Biological Cycle
The transformation of a goblin is the Rapid Goblinoid Mutation Cycle. It can take as long as a minute and as little as six seconds, but the goblin, when sufficient material has been stored, will undergo a physical mutation. A goblin's mind is not altered during the mutation - they always remain themselves. Furthermore, if the goblin does not wish to mutate it can halt its own process. A goblin can revert to its base form when in isolation and a period of inactivity for one week.
Civilization and Culture
History
We the goblin-folk are hardy. Though others mock our small bodies, they do not understand. We are many, and they are few. We are disparate, and therein lies our weakness. Though all the goblins of the world are divided, one day, we shall rise together, as in the ancient days and the under-days, and we shall rise. And the world shall be Goblin!
