Purgatio Sac (P - oo - Rr - gah - tee - oh)

Properties
Material Characteristics
While similar to the liver, the texture is all wrong. It is very rough, while being slimy, and is an eggplant purple color with an olive-green tint. When sliced into chunks, the sac secretes a substance called indigo tar.
Life & Expiration
It can expire exactly like a kidney can with alcohol if a dragonthorn uses too much dragon magick. Once the organ begins to shut down or has been damaged internally -- whether by a weapon or blunt force trauma -- surgery is the only way to replace it. Removing the organ and replacing it with a new one is often required if the damage is too significant to it. However, lasering the sac closed if the wound is minor can help benefit the dragonthorn better than removing the sac. After being removed, the sac has a shelf-life of 3 months if stored correctly.
History & Usage
Discovery
The organ wasn't discovered for nearly 100 years after dragonthorns started using dragon magick. This was around the time science was taking effect in the Stadia Kingdom, driving scientific studies of the organ until it was completely understood.
Everyday use
While dragon magick is extremely helpful, its powers comes with a cost. It helps to flush the system of harmful toxins created by dragon magick, such as sulfur for flame or shadow dragon magick. There are said to be over 35 different toxins that enter the dragonthorns system otherwise.
Hazards
Yes, the organ has toxins, but these toxins are broken down into a thick chemical substance called indigo tar.
Reusability & Recycling
A dragonthorn who has taken good care of their purgatio sac can sign up to be an organ donor once they die, allowing their sac to be used in place of a damaged purgatio sac.
Distribution
Storage
The purgatio sac must be refrigerated at 45 °F - 55 °F at 101 kPa. If frozen, the organ becomes nonviable for organ donation, but it can be used to be scientifically studied.
