Silent Stalkers

Be silent and be swift so that all that dare face you will fear you as a shadow of death. Carne, Head of the Silent Stalkers
In a war against a stronger foe, it means using more subtle methods to deal with them, as open confrontation is not an option, for it only means certain death at that point. When hunting, A good hunter knows that the best opportunity to kill is to strike when their prey is weakened, even if it means wearing it down before the final blow. That is something that the Silent Stalkers of the Brotherhood of the Wood excel in as they wage their battle where their enemies expect it.

Structure

Warden-Commander: Head of the Silent Stalkers that regulates their commands and operations to ensure that they maintain their effectiveness.   Captain: While few, they are in charge of several bands operating in various areas to maintain cohesion and effectiveness while conducting their regional missions.   Sergeant: Each one is in charge of a band and determines which targets to strike and which not to, often chosen for being cool-headed and calculated in their methods.   Corporal: Cadet officers in training who are second in command of an acting sergeant to maintain discipline within their ranks and take charge of when the commanding officer cannot.

Being A Member

It is our duty to become one with the wilds to make our enemies bleed for going against us, just as they had done to us before. We have no need to fight on their terms, nor should we fight on their terms, for there is only one truth to war: all that matters is victory by any means necessary. Our struggle against overwhelming odds does not hinder our commitment and skill to achieve the bloodshed required for our liberation. The risks may be significant, but our enemies have been weakened with every blow dealt them as their fear feasters like an open wound, unable to stop us with every strike. All we ask for the eve of victory is to be able to tear the throat of our occupies so they may never again lay claim to our lands.

What People Think

To much of the other branches of the brotherhood, the Silent Stalkers play an essential role as active fighting forces in their war for liberation and their protection. They are responsible for much of their military activity as their small skirmish activities have been proven effective despite their small numbers. While outsiders are mixed about their interaction as Ardanians and other rebel groups are inspired by their daring attacks, the empire has grown to fear and respect them for their constant attacks against them. Yet many find their ability to come and go without anyone noticing eerie without a context of how they do. Many find them an enigma as they rarely allow any of their tactics and methods to be revealed to avoid losing any advantage they already have.

Public Agenda

Waging a guerrilla war against the Vatian Empire, sowing chaos and confusion in their wake.

Assets

Traps: The Stalkers have been using various traps to disorient, injure, and kill their targets before commencing with their attacks.   Outposts: Various hidden outposts that the Forest Guard once used are now used as rest stops and staging grounds by various groups operating in the areas they are found in.

History

Remnant of the Guard

When the Forest Guard fell during the War of the Raptors, those that remained where scattered and divided across the vast and treacherous Great Forest in an attempt to escape the forces of the Vatian Empire seeking to wipe them out. One such group was led by the Rangers Carne and Fredrick Lumbren of Oaken Tower after narrowly survive the Betrayal of White Wood being forced to hide in the forest to survive. During that time, they would find other survivors and united to form the Brotherhood of the Wood with Carne reorganizing any remaining Guard forces to create the lethal fighting force known as the Silent Stalkers. Their only purpose is to wage war behind enemy lines to weaken and sow terror into the Imperial Legions that occupy their homeland. Their skill alone, with stealth and ambushes being enough to make the most grizzled of veterans Legionaries look over their backs in fear of meeting them.

As one of the only two active military forces with the Brotherhood, the Silent Stalkers play a pivotal role in attacking various imperial targets behind enemy lines to disrupt the empire's grip in the border regions of the Great Forest, with even the smallest of victories causing irreversible harm to the imperial grip upon the Green Edge. Their attacking being unpredictable, they strike at any unsuspecting target in their sight before vanishing before any more substantial force attempts to intercept them. It is often impossible to find them as their knowledge of the terrain allows them to blend in their environment and gain more ground in short periods. Often operating in smaller groups, they only carry what they can to remain on the move, using the terrain to move silently and nimbly to strike multiple targets when given the chance. Rarely are they seen in large numbers unless setting their sights on larger prey to hunt is too good to let go of. The few that have survived their sudden attacks will often have difficulty remembering what had happened as confusion and dread overwhelm them from the efficient brutality they commit in a short amount of time before anyone can react to them.

Hidden Vanguard

While one of the primary duties of the Silent Stalkers is to wage war in the imperial-occupied territory, another critical role they have is acting as scouts to gather information on troop movements, avoiding traps, and finding safe routes to move through. This is often done to assist the other branches of the Brotherhood to commence their operations without being seen and targeted. Being one of the only groups that can traverse their forest environment reliably, they are vital in ensuring covert and military operations are successful for the most part. They have also been used as escorts for essential assets such as persons of interest and vital supplies brought back to the brotherhood without the fear of losing them. There have been very few altercations while they have been active on these roles being able to easily past potential dangers or removing quickly if their is no other way.   A lesser-known role they have dealt with is monitoring the activities of the natives and wildlife in the Great Forest in the chance they pose a threat or asset to the Brotherhood. Due to the dangers of going deeper into the forest, they are often the only ones who go through such an ordeal, as those who lack experience of what lies within it are often never seen again. This has ensured a greater understanding of what goes on in the forest to avoid getting into any unnecessary danger. Much of what these scouting missions learn from such interactions is kept in secrecy to avoid panic and distress from the other branches and the refugees under them, say for the Circle of Unity monitors these activities. Only when danger is at had will the Stalkers act to deal with it a quickly as possible before they get out of hand.

Last of The Rangers

There aren't that many of us left from before the war, you know, it doesn't mean we are any less dangerous. - Brotherhood Ranger
Much of the Silent Stalkers' success comes from using Rangers to train and lead them into a battle, making them an effective force. However, only a small number remain from the old kingdom. While there has been some success in training new ones, their lack of resources and constant skirmishes with the enemy have kept their numbers low for now. So long as the remaining Rangers still exist, they will remain deadly fighters.

Unseen Death

I keep telling you I couldn't see anything; it's like trying to catch a shadow. - Traumatized Legionary
To become a Stalker, one must learn the ways of the wild, know every place to stay hidden, and never make a sound as they do. In their silence, few can ever find them, going unnoticed by those they are hunting. Even when they strike, they maintain their silence to ensure the advantage of surprise is still with them until it is time for them to retreat to their surroundings. To ensure that fear spreads amongst the enemy, they hide any feature that makes them Human and carry off their dead to make it look like they are ghosts that cannot be killed no matter how hard they try.
