Church of the Raven Queen

For thousands of years the people of the Katrain Bay have revered the Raven Queen above all of other gods of man, ever since High Priestess Ervaná stumbled upon an ancient shadar-kai fortress dedicated to the Matron of Ravens and spread the lessons she had learned to the citizens of Corax. For much of the early years of the Church, it was heavily suppressed by the Godrikian Empire and the Church of the Dawnlords (the state religion of the empire), being viewed as heresy. But after the rebellion of the Black King, the Church has been left, unopposed within the region, and now with the dominancere of the Empire of Coraxia it is the dominant religion of Jarindos.

Structure

The Church of the Raven holds the Raven Queen as their patron deity and as the spiritual husband of their mistress, the Empress of Coraxia is the technical head of the religion. However, she is often busy with state business and so the day-to-day running of the church is led by the High Priestess, who resides in the Cathedral of a Thousands Ravens in the centre of Corax. The church is then subdivided into archbishops who take lead of regions or cities of the Empire. These archbishops form a council that - upon the death of the High Priestess - will vote amongst themselves to determine the next High Priestess. After the archbishops there are the bishops who take control of church activities within areas of a city, small regions or entire towns. Finally, there are the priests who run small churches or work in the direct service of a bishop or archbishop.

Tenets of Faith

Being servants of the Raven Queen the church and its followers have a great regard for death, seeing the natural end for all things. They do not fear it, nor relish in it. Instead they see life as a way to experience what the world has to offer, it is a chance to impress their goddess and make something of themselves before they inevitably join her in the Fortress of Memories. This attitude has in turn led to many of the church to despise the unliving and a great suspicion of those that would bring the dead from their graves, whether it be a necromancer, lich or even a cleric who would seek to bring a soul back into a dead man's body. The church has a strict ban on all necromancy, and has regulations on resurrections and revivals. Other than this the church authorities and its priests preach for freedom, happiness and libertarian ideals.

Death is just another path. One that we all must take.
