Valamar the Black

Lord Valamar of the Ebony Peaks (a.k.a. The Black Hand of Hrothmund)

Valamar the Black is perhaps the most infamous tyrant known throughout the Realms, most assuredly in his home Realms of Ragnias. His bloodlust and thirst for power are unparalleled and no mortal or God has matched him in his genocidal rampage during the Third Convergence. Long dead, Valamar still exists through him being the physical embodiment of Hrothmund's mindless rage and humanity's infinite ability to cause instability. It was Valamar who lost the glaive Rozol, in an attempt to become the True Lord of the Realms by defeating the Abyss-beyond-Realms.

Divine Domains

Chaos and Havoc

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Holidays

While not technically his holiday, Convergence Scholars confirm that the yearly burning of traitors and mad men in the Northern realms is attributed to Valamar's cruelty and dishonor, many believing that the first burning was Valamar himself.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

More lean than that of his predecessors, Valamar was nimble and precise. While he did have a similarly broad chest and muscle density of his forebears, he was part Elf, allowing him to be much more agile than others of Hrothmund’s blood.

Body Features

Very, almost sickly pale, Long, Pitch black hair thinly draped over his face. Bent over lazily with arms hanging at knee height. Currently, he lacks all ten fingers,

Specialized Equipment

Hjartagjafi, the Heart Devourer- A jagged, well-worn single-edged sword, forged during a bygone age long before Hrothmund's time. The blade emanates a sense of doom and seething malice, having been a tyrant-king's weapon sealed away in a tomb far beneath the Ebony Peaks.

Personal history

Valamar was born beneath the Ebony Peaks, a range of volcanic mountains in the farthest northern reaches of Ragnias. A Half-elf, despite sources claiming otherwise, descended from Runa Blackhammer on his father side, a Reaver of the Old Kingdom. Although his heritage was not known to him at first, all would become clear when the Horns of the High War sounded, summoning the Lords of the Realms   It is unclear how Valamar came into possession of his sword, Hjartagjafi, some claiming it was a gift from Hrothmund, others believing he’d found the weapon in an ancient tomb, hidden in the mountains. The weapon, however, is the most common theory as to why Valamars’ ascension was so swift and overwhelming   Valamar had spent years training to be a formidable warrior, and when he’d claimed his signature weapon, the jagged black blade that would one day be known as Hjartagjafi, his reputation grew further. By the time he came of age, he'd already claimed enough glory among mercenaries to be given a title by a Reaver of the Pantheon of the High War; The Black Hand of Hrothmund. It was upon receiving this title that he set out to complete the Trials of Hrothmund, where he gained audience with Hrothmund and claimed his birthright as Dominus of Ragnias.   The bloodshed he caused on the battlefield was legendary- men cowered in terror beneath his gaze, fearful of their fate from the oftentimes unpredictable Lord. Records even show Valamar not even having to kill his foes- they'd kill themselves throwing themselves from atop their city walls at his approach and opening their own throats before him, saving themselves from a violently painful and drawn-out execution.   When he ascended to Lordship, Valamar began to conquer most of Ragnias, raising his banners over the second largest empire to ever exist in the 30,000 years since the Separation, spreading from the Dragontail Mountains in the west to the Throat of Ragnias in the east and north, and even expanding into the eastern lands of Rukulos. His Wife, Queen Ingrid, ruled from their capital, in the city that would one day grow and be known as Valskar in the present day. Ingrid raised their only daughter and ruled their empire while Valamar conquered more and more of Ragnias.   His god-like power rivaled all other Lords combined. It was common for his foes to simply surrender at the sight of his vast armies, let alone if Valamar himself marched with his vanguard forces. It is theorized by Convergence Scholars that if Valamar had turned his gaze upon his allies and waged war upon them, whilst also fending off the other rival Lords, that by the universal law of the sword, he may have been powerful enough to usurp Adaliah as Creation Incarnate. Thankfully, Valamar's ego and ambition were his ruin   Upon the near conclusion of the Third Convergence, Valamar ambition came to its zenith; he sought to claim the throne of Creation Incarnate. To do so, The Black Hand set his sights on defeating the greatest threat to the Realms since the dawn of time itself: the Abyss-beyond-Realms. Nearly succeeding if not for Valamar loosing the Glaive of Hrothmund, Rozol, in the ensuing combat, the physical artifact seemingly being lost forever. Such was the first disgrace of Valamar the Black, then later having his name scoured from all historical accounts, along with his empire being broken up into hundreds of smaller territories.   After Valamars' death, he was then punished by Hrothmund himself during the afterlife. Hrothmund could not destroy Valamar's soul, as it already had been fused to his own, making him a God. After gifting his descendant with the title of God of Chaos and Havoc, he ordered that Valamar be relieved of his fingers, his tongue, and his heart, turning Valamar into a mindless, ravenous hollow shell. The former God-King of Ragnias became a wild animal, void of any emotion, trapped in his own mind as he was driven mad, seeking to feed his bloodlust eternally. The Hollow Lord, as he was now referred to, was chained to a mountain and then given to Deirdre, Hrothmund's Firstborn and the Goddess of Death and Ruin, to be used as a last resort during the Final War.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Valamar was among the few mortals who grew powerful enough to potentially usurp Adaliah as Creation Incarnate. He also came close to Ascending to his own Godhood, not relying on Hrothmund and the path of Mantling the God of War.

Failures & Embarrassments

He lost Rozol to the Abyss-beyond-Realms, and was reduced to a mindless creature of rage and bloodlust.

Intellectual Characteristics

Valamar was quite cunning despite his origins, and used that to undermine his opponents who dared to face him.

Morality & Philosophy

Valamar's moral compass was slightly askew- he had an idea of right and wrong, but was willing to do anything necessary to get the job done, be that job saving or slaughtering thousands.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

He seeks a way to uncage his mind from Hrothmunds punishment, so that he may rise to his self-proclaimed, rightful place in the Pantheon

Virtues & Personality perks

Patient beyond measure and more cunning than any other Dominus. Very charming and charismatic.

Vices & Personality flaws

Prone to fall into his bloodlust, due to his unnnatural corruption. Once triggered, he will not relent until his foe is utterly eviscerated, and he refuses to ever retreat or back down from a challenge.

Representation & Legacy

He is seen as living proof that the Blood of Hrothmund and the Law of the Sword, while potent and incredibly useful, can be twisted and bent to create tyrants capable of unimaginable cruelty, thus creating a culture that adheres strictly to the Reavers Path.
