Mossberg

Mossberg is a small collection of villages scattered around a ruined stone watchtower and a few hot springs just at the base of alpine hills. In ancient times, the tower was probably was used by the arboreal forest dwellers to watch for threats from the higher elevations. Now, the threats lie deeper in the woods and this area stands as a quiet enough place for a settlement to thrive. A small mountain spring provides some fresh water but most of it comes from melting fresh snow.
Most of the homes are covered in moss and fungai, some of which are tiny sentient beings known as Mosslings that are eager to help the people and animals of the village. The Mosslings typically rest near the hotsprings as night falls.

Demographics

Most of the people in Mossberg are of goliath, orcish, dwarvish, and snow elvish descent. A few members of the village, along with several Mosslings take care of all the children in the village. Keeping them safe and helping them learn the tools to survive the harsh climate.

Government

The three eldest people in the village are expected to lead.

History

It's believed that this area wasn't always so cold. At the highest level of the tower, there is a hidden puzzle written in celestial that no one has solved. Every three years, when moose coonverge at the hot springs and The Guardian looks down on the tower, the villagers gather and send new arrivals and those who have come of age in the last three years up to the top of the tower for a chance to complete the puzzle.

Points of interest

The elder hut is made of upside-down massive moose-like antlers over 40 feet from tip to tip. Furs and leathers cover the antlers which make up the supports of the structure. The three elders meet briefly daily in the hut. Otherwise, the hut is typically reserved for celebrations or village-wide meetings.

Architecture

Most of the homes are made of stone and lined with furs and hide. A few families have begun making log cabin homes.

Natural Resources

Mountain goats and hardy vegetables cared for by the mosslings are the staples of the people of Mossberg. The mosslings have also allowed for the growth of some grains which has allowed the forge in the tower basement to be turned into a bread oven.
