Thrain Coppercleft

Foreman of the Leilon Mine | De facto Head of the Fort Council

Stone speaks slow. You just have to listen longer.
— Thrain

Overview

A lifelong miner with lungs full of dust and a heart carved from granite, Thrain Coppercleft has kept the Leilon mines running longer than most adventurers have been alive.

He’s a dwarf of few words, fewer compliments, and an unyielding sense of duty to his crew. He doesn’t like magic. Doesn’t trust nobles. And definitely doesn’t need your gratitude.

But he respects results—and if you're Rue, who’s earned her place through grief and grit alike, he might just grunt something that resembles approval.

Despite officially answering to House Vexmoor, Thrain often acts as the real head of the Fort Council—especially when Lord Darius goes quiet or stubborn. The other council members defer to him out of experience, not courtesy.

Personality & Presence

The mine doesn’t lie. People do. Tools break. Rock cracks. But stone tells you what’s coming—if you’ve got ears for it.
— Thrain
  • Gruff, blunt, and hard as bedrock
  • Deeply superstitious—but only when it comes to stone
  • Known to carry grudges longer than ore veins
  • Runs the crew, keeps the ledgers, and decides who goes below. No one challenges him. Not because he’s loud—because he’s right.

Locals Say

  • He can tell ore’s location by how your boots echo
  • He broke a mimic’s jaw with a mining helmet
  • He’s never missed a shift in 40+ years—except once, during the cave-in

Current Concerns

  • Increasing instability in the lower tunnels
  • Fey runes reacting to unknown magic
  • Rue being drawn deeper than even he is comfortable with

He hasn’t said it out loud, but his pick hasn’t left his belt in days. That’s how you know something’s wrong.
