Personal history
Early Life
Alasdair was born as the second son of Auralana Rylin during the reign of Steward Auralon II. As the second son, he was well educated as befitting a member of House Rylin, but was not intended to become the Winter Warden, but rather to strengthen his family through out means, or even find his own path. At the Age of 28, he set off to explore the high seas.
Years as a Sailor
Using capital provided by his great-grandfather, Alasdair began his own trading company under the authority of House Rylin. He spent much of his life as Captain of the Miriel, his flagship. Under his oversight, the trading company grew in size and, by the time of his 'retirement', had 32 ships in commission. While he based this trade company out of Mauribon, much of his time was spent at sea.
Fork in the River
In 1,647 AoR, when political tensions at home escalated due to Aurasen's activities, his mother, Auralana, now the Steward of the Seasons, recalled him home to assist her with the crisis. He was present as the truth behind the Marshall's Treason was made known, and that he acted on the council of the Winter Warden, who sought to weaken the other providences. Facing political pressure from the heads of Houses Deigh, Saelsir, and Calior after these revelations came to light, Auralana stripped her firstborn of his birthright.
This led to Alasdair's unexpected ascension to the rank of Winter Warden at the age of 646 in his older brother's stead, who was forbidden from political activities moving forward.
Time as the Winter Warden
The newly appointed Warden decided to follow his mother's example and use his life experiences in the role. To this end, he worked with the various coastal settlements in the water province to make sure their ports were in good condition. Particularly, towns such as Glasarin and Promaune saw investments in their ports, allowing them to better compete with Cuanaur and House Deigh. This gained him popularity amongst the Lin Malion.
The Steward of the Seasons
Alasdair was sworn in as the fifth Steward in the 1,875th year of the Age of Restoration, and quickly had to get to work to deal with unrest in the Enclaves. House Tiene in the Fire Providence protested the investments in the ports without any recompense to them, and they were soon joined by House Deigh, who had lost 15% of their trade due to the measure.
Further, House Chaelen in the eastern Air Providence began to protest the aid given to Caldor to rebuild, which had drained their treasury, causing tension in the Saer Malion.
This caused great stress for the seaman-turned-ruler, who sought to keep both sides happy.
Seeds of Rebellion
One aspect of the long lifespans of the Elves is that they can be patient; thus, Aurasen spent decades building his support among mercenaries recruited from the Clanlands and amongst the Houses of the Enclaves. Therefore, it was in the 45th year of Alasdair's rule that tensions flared as his brother returned, and claims began that an illegitimate Steward currently sat on the throne.
Upon his return from a royal visit to the Republic of Cerania, Alasdair sought to meet with his brother to settle this peacefully in accordance with the Maiden's Law. However, Aurasen never intended to follow this law, violently assassinated his brother, and declared himself the new Steward.
Education
Even as a second son, Alasdair received the typical primary education for a member of House Rylin. Throughout his life, he was largely self-taught as he began a trade company. Upon his ascension to Winter Warden, his mother sought to teach him what he needed and prepare him for the future.
