Vilothric Basin

Geography

A filled in basin of metamorphic rock that dips far below the Vilothric mountain range to the west. The great basin has been filled in single layer of ash that makes up the predominate soil type that ranges all the way from Split Rock to Port De Renard. Geologic studies conducted over that few decades have also revealed that the Isle Estile is the only known rock structure from this layer that is above the surface.   Meaning that that is basin is far larger than what anyone first believed. Core samples taken from many hundreds of sites by the Galcian Geologic Society have identified this basic as one of two things; The largest impact crater to exist on the planet, for from edge to edge it spans nearly 3000 miles, or a truly cataclysmic volcanic formation. Both are hotly debated, Nay-Sayers on either side pointing out many indiscrepancies for both theories.   Those that argue that the impact crater is the true theory have their arguments debated by the fact that an impact of this size would have destroyed the planet rather than left an impact. An object that large to have struck the crust of the earth would have instantly vaporized all plates on the surface as well as ejected an unfathomable amount of material into space to either form more than the one moon the planet has, or the moon is the wrong size for the theory to be true. The age of the crater does not line up with any of the ages of the rock around it. The basin is made of an unknown glass like metamorphic material that breaks all layers around it.   Those that argue the volcanism theory have much of the same arguments made toward them, though their theory does support the ash layer built up along the entire mountain range. Proponents for the theory point out the flaw in their logic being that an eruption on this scale would have split the planet or at least the Penninsula that the kingdom of Galus sits on is the wrong size. The seas around Estile are relatively shallow, sitting on the middle of a plate. But, would not explain by the basic spans more than one tectonic plate.   Either way, the Basin is a fossilized layer that spans multiple tectonic plates, filled in with a massive fallout of ash and erratic rock formations. Vaguely dish shaped that has the Vilothric Mountains edging the western side of the basin, and the eastern most edge of the basin having sunken mountain ranges under the Bay of Swallows where the Ilse of Estile is the largest among them. It is theorized that there are other mountains to the south and north that have been buried since the time of the event that created the formation.

Syn would be proud of me for what I am about to do... Though, I don't think she would even have this much wrath.
The Citadel had fallen, overrun with my own children changed before my eyes. I tried to save them, I tried to heal them even though I understood there was nothing I could do for them. I teleported away those darling little ones who tried to stay and fight by my side, I couldn't allow all my children to fall by my side. I am no fool, I am aware that this is my final day. You've won Wrath... you've won. So please, let me spar my children, I'm the one you want anyway.   I couldn't... I'm not enough. But you... you... I lay here dying, trying to hold my throat closed from the gash you gave me. If I can't beat you, I'll deny you total victory. I know this is what I deserve for what I had done to you Shadows, it's what I knew would happen in the end. But, I can make this hurt, boy.
The Basin was created as Vilorlith glassed half the planet and her own Citadel in her final battle against Shadow: Wrath. She would not allow her Children to stay infected as the living weapons of war the Shadows had turned them into, she sacrificed them all as well as herself to deal Bhal a lasting injury that to this day he has not recovered from. The impact of her cosmic holocaust vaporized an untold amount of material on the planet's surface that fell for centuries to be deposited into the caldera she left behind in the use of her final act.
