Azu: The Raven

(a.k.a. The Black Witch, The Corpse Eater, The Lover, The Ascendant Butterfly)

A Shadow... A Creature of a broken fragment. An entity born of the dark, born of nothing. Born of broken divinity. One of the Eight Shadows of the world, the ones who broken the world through their folly. The ones who wanted revenge without understanding.

Divine Domains

Azu is a Creature of many things, in current Eras she is a goddess of love, of The Sun and Moon, of the Push and Pull between forces. A being built of interconnection, and profound understanding. Though, this is a very modern and carefully chosen depiction that she and the other Shadows have curated. What Azu truly embodies is lust and a relentless search for satisfaction in all it's forms. Many of her mannerisms and forms of worship revolve around this concept, pray that you never seen what the upper echelon of the Sorority engages in behind closed doors. Pray that you never hear the whispers that escape the sealed rooms of the Cathedral halls of Huron. Pray that they do no haunt your dreams while they worm their way through your flesh and mind.   Though, much of her true nature is not known to the public, very few even know that she is not even a god at all. Her most ardent worshipers are unaware of her true nature, only the Raven's Sibyl is marginally aware of this facet of their goddess.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

by Thereasonwhy
The Pendant of the Raven is a chiefly used symbol in the Sorority and all who are even tangentially tied to the faith. A once sexually free item that has over time gained renown for it's significance for those searching for the beauty in this world. Now used in the City of Huron as a sign for those seeking a hand in marriage.

Tenets of Faith

Her Sorority wishes to teach all that freedom is found in love. That the dissolution of arbitrary boundaries are something that only further divides the peoples of the world. That true happiness is found by looking not at the separations of things, but to see the beauty in it's harmony. Her faithful preach that love is not what one would think, that love comes from the heartfelt idea that to better oneself is meant to be a harrowing experience. To see oneself is to see the self with eyes unclouded by the lies told by oneself.   That in all things, the self is something beautiful, for all it's flaws and broken pieces. To learn to love oneself is just as important to them as spreading this feeling and message to others.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

She has what she wants, or at least what she think she wants. She has already consumed Syn to be one with her. She has already taken the goddess she has so dearly wanted, now a symbiotic entity inside her mind. Syn lives on as a split personality inside the mind and body of Azu.

Though, through the efforts of Ilgor of the Skullbrood Clan, Gjorn Fourth king of Dwarves and Neaves Emberwing she is made aware of the horror she has wrought on the goddess. Later she wishes to free Syn from herself so that she may live again.   Syn is very much alive, she is the true voice Azu's worshippers follow. For Azu could care for not the affairs of mortals, not their struggles, not their lives, not their happiness or sorrow. Syn is but a phoenix waiting to emerge from her dark feathered egg with a vengeance with will will scarcely know.

Personal history

Azu is a... complicated entity. She is known by many names depending on who would speak with you. To those of The Elsewhere and the The Quartet she is the Shadow known as Lust. A fragment of the Fifth Brother , the discordant note to the Quartet's Symphony. All the The Original Shadow's desire funneled into this being, she was born in the darkness from beyond the light of the Quartet's universe.

To those like Gjorn Fourth king of Dwarves, who have lived their entire life believing the lies told to the world by the Sorority and how Azu presents herself to the world, to see Azu as she is in a moment of pure revulsion, is a... formative experience.

Though to Syn herself, is a duality. A hatred and relief. Hiding inside the vessel of Azu to keep herself safe from the other Shadows, though... paying the cost the Azu wishes, a love she hates. A disgusting obsession that she has very little choice but to acquiesce.
To the Mistwalkers, in the Valley of Mists she is something else entirely. A true goddess that brought light to the darkness of a world around them, only without the true knowledge that she was the one to bring that darkness to them in the first place.
