Sol Absentia Ghenna

A brilliant thing, born out of the darkness of the past

As seen in
A lingering, a holdout in the broken frame of the mountains.   A warmth, like a lover's hand in the dead of winter.   A sign of things to come, a force of destruction that consumes nothing beneath.   A new sun on shattered skies. A sun born from the dark.     From their hands does her legacy live on for the things she had done for them.   From their souls does it draw power, a power gifted back to the world she gifted them.   A rightness, a glorious first light to the dark night.   A seed by which the Clan can grow.

History

It was dark, the sun abandoned. The world a smoldering ruin, smoke occluded star and night. The smell of bile and rot thick through the air, the pungent stink of the sins of the world. In the darkness, there was light. The wings of our honorable Mother, for she found us and took us in. Orphaned to a world we knew naught, memories of times past faded into the smoke behind us.

Her wings burned new stars into the hazy, burned away the darkness, and became the torch by which we see. Her breath, the summer night on the solstice of volcanic year. She breathed fire into the heartwood of the Great Tree to warm our feet, she burned away the horrors that ran and plagued our people. Incinerating the monstrosities, saving us from the shadows that clung to our wings.

A guiding hand in the gloom, fires on distant horizons. A red orange glow to light our way home, pressing her hand into ground. Molten earth rose and fell to create our Valley, a beacon from death. Where the horrors saw holocaust and hellfire, we saw our salvation in the actions of our dear Azu the Beautiful.

When she had burned away the world full of horrors to give us the freedom to grow when the last fires died away while she taught us our new home, we hid away a last light from her divine breath. A sacred flame, a flame from the dark. A sun in absence.

Participants

The High Priestess Currently: Mother Afjie and the Heirophant Father Arwan are the two main keepers of the flame. Their primary task is to never allow the flame to die, normally this is by any means necessary, though after the Land of Fog incident, this has taken a somewhat different meaning.

  • The High Priestess will begin a daily ritual which opens the flame to accepting new life. Symbolic in the idea that the Mistwalkers' history views Azu's Flames as the very thing to bring new life to their world.

  • The Hierophant will begin funneling both of their power into feeding the flame through an arcane-laced prayer. Though the Father begins the process, he is only needed to start the process, the engine behind the force. The High Priestess keeps it moving until the flame is satisfied until the next day.

Observance

The Sol Absentia is used in many of the rituals and traditions inside the Mistwalkers' Culture. Their Kindling and Rekindling ritual is held here, where broken bonds and new bonds are reforged in the heat of Azu's love. Their Baptism begins here before new child is brought to the mountains to the north where their wings are dried. The fire is there to allow Azu the moment to grace the child with her hopes and dreams.   Their marriages are also held here, where Azu and her everlasting flame are there to observe the forging of a new life between two people. Many of their holidays begin with an observance of the fire, it is a core concept to their lives.

Imperial Scholar's Thoughts

A lingering, a holdout in the broken frame of the mountains.   A coldness, seeping from a child's hands in the dead of winter.   A sign of things to come, a force of destruction that consumes all within.   A false sun on shattered skies. A poison born from the dark.     From their hands does her legacy live on for the things she had done to them.   From their souls does it draw power, a power stolen from the world she broke.   A wrongness, a poison. A moniker for her consumption of the original.   A seed by which the Clan is chained.
