Werebeast

Up to date: Summer 2025

Werebeasts are Fey beings originally from Otherworld with the unique anatomic ability to shift between their standard humanoid form and that of the creature whose Aspect of Nature they are bound to.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Werebeasts’ natural form is that of a basic Fey – they look perfectly human apart from the pointy ears of all Fey.
Beyond their Fey form, a werebeast has a beast form – an exact representation of the creature with which they share their Nature Aspect.

Genetics and Reproduction

Werebeasts mate and reproduce like all other creatures. Many Werebeasts are caught somewhere between Fey/human-like tendencies and that of their Nature aspect, including shorter gestation periods and a more distinct tendency of going into heat following the pattern of their beast.
As with all Fey, once they give birth, the mother instinctively knows how to form a glamour around their child to hide their Fey ancestry, making them Changelings to plant with human parents.
However unlike most Fey, werebeasts often don’t make use of it. They often take care of their own rather than the parasitic behaviour of their brethren.

Growth Rate & Stages

They age like other pure Fey, typically growing out of dependent infancy faster, like their animal counterparts.
While most Fey don’t show much sign of aging before they fade, Werebeast actually can. This is due to the continued intermingling between pure Werebeasts and Vettir skin wearers.

Ecology and Habitats

Werebeasts are not unlike other Fey in regards to often staying close to their Aspect, however many Werebeasts form flocks or packs with their fellow Aspect mates in migratory or territorial lifestyles.
Their Aspect plays a lot into these habits, so others might live very solitary lives as well.
Werebeasts are often more guided by their Aspect than their Passion.
They are, generally speaking, less lured by humanity, often sticking to nature, Otherworld or Fey habitats, making them perhaps the Fey least affected by The Unravelling.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Werebeasts eat and drink like all other creatures. Their dietary needs are often more in tune with that of their Aspect, and feeding on their Passion is more rare.
Werebeasts with Predatory Aspects often follow the habits of their associated animal, perhaps preferring to hunt in their beast shape.

Biological Cycle

They often follow the tendencies of their Nature Aspect down to mating patterns, migratory behaviour and even hibernation.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Often imitating that of their Aspect, many Werebeasts form social structures influenced by the habits of their animal counterpart.
They do however also socialize on equal footing with other Fey, many packs having their leader represent them in local Fey politics, if they care enough to be involved.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Found across the entire world as well as Otherworld, most werebeasts stay to the areas where their specific Aspect is naturally present, whether to be able to blend in, defend their flock or because it suits their own specific needs.

Average Intelligence

They are intelligent on level with all Fey, however their Aspect has a way of influencing their thought processes and emotional patterns.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Even in their base form Werebeasts have tweaked senses matching those of their Aspect.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

The name of a Werebeast is often a dead give-away for how much they – or at least their parents – live in nature or among humans. More nature bound Fey might forego classic naming traditions for simpler monikers based on behaviour.

Common Myths and Legends

Many legends live among humans of Werebeasts. In modern days, especially the werewolf has grown to a huge cultural popularity, though the classical, monstrous half wolf half human shape is not naturally within Werebeast capability.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Werebeasts share a long history of intermingling with those Vettir who own and use Animal Skins to match their beast shape abilities.
This has over time mixed the two races to points where some Werebeasts have outgrown their pointy ears, and some Vettir have more natural affinity for the beast of their magical wearable Skin.
Genetic Ancestor(s)
Average Physique
While they are presented by their base shape, their inner anatomy can be very influenced by their Aspect as well as their lifestyle, making most Werebeasts more muscular and lean generally, however specific animal Aspects might leave a Werebeast with difficulty escaping that extra fat etc.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
While other Fey have more varied skin colors and markings as their base form and Nature is one, Werebeasts’ base form is always within the human color spectrum.
Their hair typically is too, but there are cases of them sharing hair color with the fur of their Aspect.
