Montarbatten family
History
The Montarbatten family were an Old Ferrarian noble family from the Dellanix mountains. They ruled the region in exchange for loyalty to the King of Ferraria as the Lord of Snow.
The Montarbattens originated in the south foothills of the Dellanix mountains. They built their fortress-citadel of Montbtnval near the source of the River Muntadag, a tributary to the River Hyrame, that enabled some navigation by boat.
The Montarbatten's controlled a small part of the Dellanix mountains, but they were the most powerful of the foothill tribes. When King Ferran the First declared war on the tribes, the Montarbattens led them in battle. Although they defeated Ferran twice, they were unable to strike a crippling blow and were forced to surrender. Ferran gave the Montarbatten's supremacy over the Dellanix mountains as the Lord of Snow.
After the Republian Conquest of Ferraria, the Montarbatten's sheltered Stavin and Acanth Oboror and then helped them lead a rebellion that saw the restoration of the monarchy. The Montarbatten's were rewarded with increased control over their territories and were promised the construction of a new port, Avrosen, in the east Dellanix mountains.
After the Fourth Ferrarian Civil War, the duchy of Iolamaria was established, an independent kingdom controlled by the Montarbatten family.
