Rodyalkas

The Rodyalka are an amphibious race which lives in the waters of the northern portion of Yehv, generally only above 40 degress north. While they can breathe air, they must submerge in water for part of every day or risk drying out. When a Rodyalka begins to dry out they may suffer extreme headaches, nausea, flaky skin, and more permanent issues should they remain dry too long. Anything over 48 hours is usually 100% fatal, though the time varies based on how often they are dried out and how much water they were immersed in, as well as what type of water it was and the current humidity. Rodyalka prefer cool but not cold salt water, but are able to live just fine in cold or warm waters. They are also able to live within fresh water, but prefer the endless oceans instead. Still, there are a number of Rodyalka communities living in and around the river lands.
Rodyalka have one of the most pronounced gender differences of any sentient race. One can easily distinguish male and female Rodyalka by the size and shape of their bodies, as well as a new other features. Male Rodyalka are much wider than female ones, including their facial features. Their eyes, while large, are not affected by the wide features, so male eyes are proportionally smaller and look more normal. Overall, however, female Rodyalka look more like humans than males. All Rodyalka have large eyes, mouths, and gills, as well as webbed feet and hands. Their other notable feature is their hair, with both male and female Rodyalka having long greenish hair which can sense movement in water and is used by Rodyalka to detect and prepare for ambushing seafood. The difference between male and female is stark, with males having the hair coming from their chins, forming beards when out of the water and females having the hair coming from their head. A Rodyalka's skin is always slightly damp, and they leave surfaces wet after sitting or resting on them. If this does not occur, then the Rodyalka is most certainly drying out, ill, or both.
Rodyalka are mysterious folk, only trading with a few selected contacts from other races. Rodyalka mainy trade with the Klal'Bauters or the Cenidiir, as the other races they reside off shore of are unfamiliar and make them nervous due to their more warlike governments. They prefer to live alone and have a very individualist society but are organized into loose tribal units. They are mostly peaceful, only rarely conduction minitary operations against other Rodyalka tribes. However, due to violent Terraderm who live to their south, they must always be on the alert for invasions, as the Terraderm are unpredictable and sometimes engage in large-scale raids. It is mostly due to the Terraderm that Rodyalka have any ability to wage war.
