Republic of Pallanium
The Republic of Pallanium is a state which was founded following the dissolution of the Costtorali League. It was originally established as an independent principality rule by a Tyranid, and remained an independent state for most of its history despite changes to the ruling dynasties. However, after the city's military was annihalated by Sarbarve's Kingdom, the Tyrani were overthrow for a democratic government once more.
History
Pallanium originated from the partitioning of the Costtoralli League by the two Gens Tyrani who'd taken control of both it and Pannilun as the league crumbled. Relations between the two gens had begun positive, but over the years they worsened until the two decided to partition the nation rather than keep fighting for influence over it. This ushered in a period of strife between the two, especially as they competed for trade with one another. Pallanium would come out on bottom of this trade war, as Pannilun was simply a closer port to much of south Telgren and reaped the rewards. Eventually, resentment among the city's elites would rise to such a level that they threw out the gens Tyrani. Shortly thereafter, they utilized shrewed commercial practices combined with diplomatic manuevering to stage a coup- converting to Blazeology and becoming the official trading partner of the Blazennian Empire. This ushered in a number of intermarriages between Pallani gens and Blazennian nobles in the early years of Blazennia, and contributed to the spread of Blazeology across the other cities. However, over time, this contract lost its value as the other cities also converted faith and established their own independent trade networks within Blazennia, reaped the rewards of the Telrai and Gnomes, or even looked further afield. Colonies on Ifyrial would soon become a major source of profits, and Pallanium was no exception, establishing a number of slave plantations and shipping the crops grown there through their home port and into Telgren. Although Pallanium would never expand inland much, they leveraged their trade to consistently fund the economy and grease the wheels of commerce.
The Eastern cities have always had to bear the brunt of the Erleting attacks- there are fewer cities and more flatlands on the east side of the mountains, meaning more Erleting to deal with. However, the invasion of Dragan Ivar's Army changed this. The western cities would become the main target of his attacks, and the east, like Pallanium, managed to escape largely unscathed. Though Ivar started his attacks in the east, this was before he gained his large following and was ineffective compared to his later campaigns. However, in the postwar land grab, Pallanium's Tyranid decided to commit his troops to a joint effort with Pannilun to attack and seize the city of Maylia from the new warlord, Sarbarve. This proved foolish, as Sarbarve was a wily tactician and veteran of numerous battles against similar opponents. The armies of Pallanium were crushed, and upon returning to the city in disarray, whipped the townspeople into a frenzy and led a coup over the city, establishing a fledgeling republic for the first time since 1196.
