Nerolím Divf

Nerolím Divf was born to a poor mother of Casyrian descent in the city of Cemdra in the country of Fraspika. Cemdra is a moderately sized town a few hours away from the major city of Oléandais known mainly for its smuggling and fishing industries, though primarily the former since the colonization of Ifyrial. Nerolím never knew his father, as he was a bastard. His mother, Geneviève, had gotten drunk one night and had a one night stand with a man who was only passing through the town and stopped for the night. This man happened to be an incubus, but had used his magic to appear as a handsome elven male to the unsuspecting woman. After having relations with him, she had the misfortune to fall pregnant, which was seen by many as divine punishment for her unholy act. Due to his father being an incubus, Nerolím is a Cambion.

As a Cambion, Nerolím had to deal with significant persecution, which translated to his mother as well, making it difficult for her to find work. Therefore, at an early age he was forced to take up petty robbery in order to survive, such as stealing from market stands. This soon turned into pick-pocketing, armed robbery, and heists. By the time he was around the age of 16, he had join a small band of vagrants, who had taken an interest in his skills as a thief. Nerolím refined his skills and was even given the nickname “Njulun's Shadow”, after the Kosmevair god of thievery. Around age 22 Nerolím was asked to join the upper ranks of the crime syndicate, which had grown larger over the years.

Nerolím soon became close with the leader of the syndicate, quickly earning his trust and becoming de facto second in command in a few short years. When, soon after, the syndicate's leader was seriously injured during a heist gone wrong due to faulty information, he told Nerolím to take over. Although Nerolím felt he wasn't worthy of the position, his mentor persisted, going as far as to say that he wasn’t as good as Nerolím. Convinced, Nerolím was announced by his mentor as the new leader of the syndicate, to the dismay of many in the gang, who resented taking orders from a Cambion. Since his mentor died only a few days later, Nerolím would have to go through a serious power struggle in order to enforce his authority. Instead of perpetuating what was sure to be a long, drawn out battle for control, Nerolím took a chance- purchasing a smuggling ship he and his followers instead made their way to the Blazennian Empire.

Blazennia in 1917 was in poor shape. Succession conflicts had been raging for 4 years, with the Imperial Council deadlocked and unable to even propose a candidate for the throne, and its powerful constituents cannibalizing the weak. In short, the perfect place to re-establish the syndicate. Landing in Rhuttmer, the most populous coastal city in the Blazennian Empire, Nerolím quickly made a name for himself. Styling himself as the "King of Thieves", he quickly became one of the most infamous criminals of the Blazennian post-strongman period. Taking advantage of the lack of law enforcement and inability of any high-ranking figure to actually catch him, Nerolím became one of the richest men in the city and his syndicate dominate Rhuttmer during the following Time of Troubles. The syndicate expanded to smuggling and fencing, trading stolen goods across the world. The cities of Csaishavel, Lorrelais, and Cseuzen, major hubs of such acitivites, soon hosted subsidiary syndicates, and Nerolím's reach extended even to the colonies of Ifyrial and beyond, with ships under his control being seen as far southeast as Angchrapur. The legend of the King of Thieves spread far and wide, carried upon the very ships which traded in his stolen goods. Even though the regin of Alezar VIII Lumiäire, beginning in 1956, is known as a period in which law and order were re-established, Nerolím seemed immune to such crackdowns. During the civil war of 1988-1994, he increased his power further, becoming by some estimates the most powerful non-royal person in the Blazennian Empire.

Nerolím has been known to dabble in dark magic, which is part of his mystique. This, however, has led to Nerolím being targeted by dark cults as well as people seeking to destroy evildoers. Since Nerolím is a powerful mage in his own right, this use of forbidden magic has only enhanced his powers. For example, he possesses a clairvoyent eye which appears blind to the normal world. This has earned him the ire of the Blazeological Oracular Order, which otherwise maintains a monopoly on such magic.
