Konuger of Jøkað

The Konuger of Jøkað is a young nation established on the ruin of the once-powerful Giriþiudan kingdom of Miþwa, which is now relegated to the mountains. Miþwa had taken advantage of the lack of Voðeren raids during the Þaru Wars, but this expansion left them overextended and vulnerable. Consequntially, forces fleeing defeat in these wars would see the undefended coastline of Miþwa as a potential new home, and soon they had established a new Konuger- Jøkað.

History

The idea of Jøkað began with the defat of Konuger Ragnar Redshaft by tbd in the closing years of the Þaru Wars. Although Redshaft was unable to save his possessions on the main isles, he devised a cunning strategy to seize the raiding camps of his people along the Giriþiudan coast, which lay fallow as most Voðeren in the area were still involved in the close of the wars. He initially planned to set up these islands as a potential base to reclaim his home, but upon seeing the pitiful state of his remaining forces (3 longboats and 150 warriors) he decided to change his strategy. Declaring his control over these islands absolute, he demanded recognition as the Konuger of Jøkað, as well as tribute from the nearby nation of Miþwa, which refused, noting the pitiful array of his troops. Taking offense to these actions, Miþwa's ruler decided to attempt to send out a fleet to seize the Jøkað islands for himself. However, Jøkaði forces burned his ships as they lay beached, and slaghtered the landing party.

Inspired by this feat, a force of exiles soon arrived to pledge themselves to Jøkað, bolstering the strength of Redshaft to around a thousand men. This was enhanced further by Redshaft himself, said to be as strong as 10 bears and as smart as a raven (obviosuly ravens aren't that smart compared to a man but in Voðeren tradition they are seen as wise messengers from the gods). Indeed, Redshaft had been a feared raider in these lands just a few decades earlier, getting his start as a leader of a raiding party before being promoted to Jarl and eventually taking a short-lived Konuger for himself. His forces had already defeated 3000 men of Miþwa, and now had increased fivefold in size. Miþwa, though still having well over 10 times that number raised, never stood a chance. 5,000 of their troops were tied up guarding the north, and 1,000 were garrisoned in the south, meaning that Redshaft's thousand men faced just 4,000. Outnumbered 4-1, Redshaft's vanguard plunged forth into enemy lines, screeching like banshees, and Redshaft personally slew the king of Miþwa. Within 20 minutes, the fight was over, and Miþwa's armies fled every which way. The king's son attempted to marshal the remains, but failed to fight back and was soon pushed to the mountain fortress of Arþan. Refusing Redshaft's challenge of personal combat, he has seemingly marshaled the remanants of the kingdom inside this castle until Redshaft dies. However, much of the Miþwani army instead fled into the Enclave of Evenswon, ignoring their monarch, which Redshaft has attested to his cowardice.

The rest of Miþwa has since been divided between Mikildus and Afslarauk, both of which are divided and have little chance of fighting Redshaft. However, he has challenges on his hand as well, as the people are rowdy, revolts are common, and he lacks men to actually raise a substantial army- especially after 25 years. Most of his veterans have long since retired, and new warriors scouring the coast are as likely to be foe as friend. This means that, ironically, Jøkað now faces the same issues as the rest of the nations of Giriþiuda's coastline.
