Knuckers
Knuckers are a unique draconic species which live in freshwater locations. They appear to be similar to many other draconic species, having the serpentine appearance of Wyrms, the wings of Wyverns, and short, stubby limbs which allow them to move slowly on land. Typically, Knuckers range between 4 and 20 feet in length, depending on age and which subspecies they belong to, but there are stories of gigantic Knuckers hibernating below ancient lakes that have reached 50 feet or more in length. Whether or not such tales are true, all verified sights of Knuckers indicate their size begins to cap out around 20 feet long, which makes sense given their living preferences. Knuckers typically prefer to live in regions full of many small pools of water, which they can dig tunnels between and interlink, thus allowing them to hide underground and emerge to ambush those who have the misfortune of drinking from the pools. Knuckers generally prefer deep mountain lakes or regions connected by cave systems already, but will work diligently to connect ponds in regions with sandstone, limestone, or other porous rocks.
Although Knucker wings are not very useful in their day-to-day life, they serve one important purpose- mating. Every year, during [tbd season], Knuckers will exit their solitary domains and gather in larger lakes. In order to scout out these lakes and get there in a timely manner, they must use their wings, so Knuckers which have lost them in an accident are no longer able to mate in most cases. Usually, most males in the region will try to mate, while not all females do, as many female knuckers do not enter heat for the first year or two after laying eggs. Once at this lake, male Knuckers will fight one another over female ones, all while the lake's supply of fish is rapidly consumed. One mating is over, Knuckers will return to their solitary domains. Knuckers do not care for their eggs after they hatch, and it is assumed that the largest sibling eats the others upon hatching. This is difficult to confirm, however, as Knuckers lay their eggs underwater in special lairs, and when people are in the area they try to eliminate any egg caches before they hatch.
Knuckers are probably the most useless draconic species in terms of which organs can be harvested. Since they lack a breath weapon, they don't have special sacs, and their blood holds no special properties. Like most other dragonic species, they taste pretty poor, and are usually left to rot unless a community is in dire need of food. Their only use is their scales, which, though less tough than other species, still fetch a reasonable price on the open market.
