Wyrms

Wyrms are a variable and diverse group of draconic species which inhabit various parts of the world. They are defined as wingless dragons which also have no legs, and therefore appear serpentine. Wyrms are distinct from actual serpents, as they still possess breathe weapons, and draconic scales rather than reptilian ones. They are believed to be closely related to Drakons, which share similar features to most Wyrms but which have wings.

Wyrms are generally a small species, but one that can be quite a nuisance when left unchecked. Although Wyrms primarily target livestock, especially chickens, they have been known to develop a taste for human flesh, and will often begin targeting children in the absence of their usual foods. This, combined with their slippery movement and draconic cunning (although they are non-sentient) makes them a deadly foe if one is unprepared, and if a Wyrm infestation is allowed to fester they can get out of control very quickly as they exhaust local herd animals and hunting grounds.

The most famous Wyrm species is the basilisk, a species which dwells exclusively on Namarin. Small but deadly, the basilisk is notable for possessing a small, crown-like crest upon its head, and is often seen as a royal serpent. Although basilisks are no more than a foot long, they are extremely quick movers, and can fling themselves over six feet to strike a target. Even if they miss with their bite, which itself secretes deadly toxins, their entire body secretes an acid-like substance that dissolves organic materials, pits metal, and cracks stones. Its breath is similarly toxic, and although it cannot spew clouds of the stuff like a drakon, this remains quite deadly. The basilisk, despite its tremendous powers, is not done yet, as it also has a fiery breath weapon. This fire is quite potent, but due to the basilisk's small size is generally less effective than its bite or toxic breath- but when combined with the basilisk's breath it creates a miniature explosion that can stun both the basilisk and its foes.

Most wyrms, including basilisks, live in large colonies. Owing to their small size, basilisk nests can grow rather large before all the food supplies of an area are used up, upon which the colony will typically split into a few new groups and move into new hunting grounds. This makes them dangerous foes, because they are able to surround and kill humans by using pack tactics.
