Bundaran
The Bundarans are Piscimar Merfolk who live in the Southern Isles of Yyradayn. Bundarans have a highly stratified society with rigid classes and their leadership possesses strong authority. Each Bundaran kingdom is entirely sworn subjects of the ruling family, which lends its name to the kingdom and around which that kingdom is structured.
Due to the underwater nature of the Bundaran kingdoms, they are unable to utilize reliable paper sources, preventing the growth of a real bureaucracy. Hence, the Budaran kingdoms mainly rely on personal loyalty to maintain their authority over their subjects. Because Piscimar culture is heavily attached to honor, Buduran nobles are bound in their oaths to their kings and would never dream of betraying them, for it would dishonorable. In addition, they often have personal ties to the monarch, further tempering this desire.
Budurians are polygamous, with the reigning monarch typically having a moderately sized harem of women. Many of these women are the relatives of high ranking nobility.
Some of the Budurian kingdoms partake in the slave trade. For Budurians, this usually means buying slaves and keeping them captive on islands where they are forced to rely on their Merfolk owners for food. The Budurians can then force them to craft or farm things that the Merfolk cannot underwater. Even the kingdoms that do not trade in slaves, however, are generally in favor of slavery, as it is seen as an extension of the caste system which they follow.
