Ægir

Ægir was a demigod whose essence has seeped into the river that bears his name. It is said that he was a powerful leader of the Proto-Human Ægyians who may have existed in ÆꜤaget in primordial history. With unknown parents (but seemingly one that was human given where he lived), Ægir was a fairly powerful demigod by the remaining accounts that can be deciphered in ÆꜤaget. Apparently unable to defeat the devil tbd, Ægir embedded his soul in the Ægir river and was able to defend his people from that devil's armies. However, he was lost to the river and become one with it.

Ægir is a confusing persona because he does not communicate in any comprehensible metric and because he is intertwined with the river. It seems that he is angry when the river overflows its banks in the wrong season or when he causes great destruction, and that perhaps he is sated when it flood in a normal fashion. However, it is also clear that he dislikes those who are not from "his people" as he appeared to fight against the Al'salaan when they conquered Lower ÆꜤaget, with the river flooding catastrophically 10 years in a row. This correlates with past accounts of foreign dynasties having issues with him as well. Nonetheless, the damage done by these floods was mostly against his own people, and perhaps he understands this for he has been relatively quiet since, barely even fighting when he was somewhat bound by Al'Salaani mages.

Ægir is also worshipped as a minor deity by the native Ægyian religion of Hōsuyan, as the cycle of the river itself is very important to their people. He is also considered a deity by several other surrounding faiths, such as in the traditional Salaanic/Ynipshari Pantheons. In contrast, Ægir is considered a demon by the Illahic, despite him very obviously not being a demon at all. The hostility of the converts has contributed to Ægir generally staying in the southern reaches, where worshippers are still present, and keeping away from the delta, which is very hostile towards him now.
