Solasheim

Solasheim, or the Beacon, is the Farathinian capital. It is quite modest in comparison to other capitals, and not much happens there. Within Solasheim there are a few craftsmen and merchants, but mostly one finds magical shops and people, especially students at the Arcane University, whose library has Syoll's largest collection of arcane knowledge.   The most significant feature of the town is the great tower that sticks up over the rooftops, at whose top burns a massive flame. The fog is held back by the light of this flame, which burns at all hours of the day, fluctuating between a bright golden flame in the day and a deep purple one at night. The flame functions both as a magical barrier, maintained by the state mages of the city, and as a large clock tower, with the colours in the flame indicating the time.   Located along the coast of Nessur's Eye by the delta of the Mistbender River, Solasheim is easily reachable (if one can sail through the mist safely) and thus often a stop for travellers to other Farathinian locations, especially if they cannot afford an airship to Ylenin. Not too far away lies a volcano that was raised during the Doomsday Century. After being dormant since 725, the Solasi volcano became active again in 1411.   The population in Solasheim is comparatively very young, seeing as most people there are students of magic. Due to the "Fog-Fleeing Effect", Farathinians are slightly outnumbered in their own capital, preferring to spend their life in a different, clearer-skied Aspect, while a lot of other Syollans tend to move there for work or school. The inhabitants are, on average, not quite as wealthy as others, but tend to work in jobs that require higher education.
