Katie May

Katie is short, even more-so than the average skyfolk, and rather slim by the standards of skyfolk, having a flat chest and fairly low body fat. While lightly built, she has a toned upper body and is fairly strong thanks to her hobbies in archery and climbing.

Katie has a rounded and fairly short face with significant freckling and a pointed chin. Her lips are relatively thin and pale. Her tongue is surgically bifurcated.

Katie has a genetic quirk resulting in her body struggling to store fat and slowing growth. Thanks to this, she's ended up noticeably smaller than most skyfolk including her family. Her low body fat also hampers the usual resistance to the cold found in skyfolk, this being one of her motivations in leaving the Sky and moving to the much warmer climates of the Sea of Ondine.

Katie, while on the warmer Sea of Ondine, dresses somewhat lightly but is still usually wearing a sweater. When visiting Home, or otherwise temperate locals, she is typically wrapped up very warmly.

Caitrìona Fionnmay was born to her parents Deirdre and Marc Fionnmay in the northern lowlands of the Sky.
  She left her island to live by herself at age 13, changing her name to Katie May, moving again to Dropmount Isle in the Sea of Ondine a year later. During this time, she got by by doing odd jobs for money and food, until she managed to find a stable job in the Dropmount port offices as an accountant.
  While working at the offices, she began dating Martha Honey-Dekken, a member of the warehouse crew at the port. She would later partner with Martha, then later join Maya East's crew.

In our own world Katie would probably use the label of lesbian, or something adjacent to that, though in her own world, she doesn't use any specific labels for her sexuality.

Katie initially worked in data entry at a dock storehouse on Dropmount Isle, before joining with Maya East aboard The Burning Queen.

Katie has a rough relationship with her family. Her body preventing her from gaining weight and growing at the same speed as other skyfolk worried her parents, particularly her birth mother, Deidre, who had a very smothering relationship with her daughter, often overfeeding her and pushing dubious "fixes" to Katie's health issues. This resulted in Katie often being unwell as a child, and as she grew old enough to stand up for herself regular arguments between her and her Deidre. This all eventually culminated with Katie stowing away on an aircraft at age 14 to get away, and eventually moving to the Sea of Ondine, changing her name in the process.
  While Katie's father did not directly contribute directly to Deidre's behaviour towards Katie, he did not help the situation in any significant way. While he was typically a decent father, he would immediately retreat when Deidre took charge, leaving her decisions uncontested. Katie has some positive memories of him, but generally regards him a "coward and fool" for his inaction.
  Her elder brother, Stephan, would often try and stand up for Katie after he realised how his mother was hurting Katie, though largely without much effect.
Years later, she reluctantly reconnected with her brother after he sought her out. She is now friendly with Stephan and the two usually meet up every few months to catch up.
  Shortly after she started dating Martha, she met with Martha's mothers, Buddleja and Teasel, who, after hearing about her past, welcomed Katie into their family, treating her as one of their own. They now stand as adoptive mothers of sorts to Katie who has formed a closer and healthier relationship with them than she ever had with her birth parents.
  Martha is Katie's most treasured person in the worlds and her closest friend. Martha was quick to catch on to Katie's issues and took it upon herself to help her out, the two ended up dating not long after.

Katie is a little guarded, but generally is a fairly friendly person. She tends to avoid being the one to start interactions with new people so she can stand back and get acquainted with a person before having to directly interact with them. Once comfortable with someone, she lets her guard down and reveals herself to be pretty casual, if a little hot headed.
  Around certain people, particularly those she is trying to make a good first impression with, she often ends up very nervous, putting on an uncharacteristic polite and formal persona. It can be quite a challenge to get her to loosen up and break out of this weird state.

Katie is decently well off these days, mostly due to her work on Maya's crew, but spent a long time after running away barely scraping by on what little she could get. While she is now in a much stabler situation with multiple safety nets, she is still very careful about spending money.
