Mindfire Draught

Mindfire Draught is one of the three awakening humours that can produce the physical changes that a wizard needs to create magic. It is one of the two more common varieties. It burns when going down the throat and can cause violent reactions. It is hard to keep down a significant amount without vomiting
While it is used ideally for the awakening of magical power it is sometimes used for other purposes. Usually for dares and challenges. While used in the challenge format a thimble only is used. The smell alone discourages all but the most stalwart challengers, and those with a sensitive sense of smell find themselves repulsed or overcome with a fit of sneezes.

History & Usage

Cultural Significance and Usage

Historically access was restricted to those trying to become wizards. It has a five year brewing process and lasts for at least 200 years properly bottled and stored. The brewers themselves were highly regarded in the communities they worked in.
The ritual consumption of this draught was part of the process of becoming a wizard in many wizarding schools. Dealing with the smell and burn was aided by ritual incense to deaden the noses reaction, as well slowly becoming accustomed to spicy foods. Other cultures would instead deaden temporarily or permanently the sense of taste that a wizarding candidate would have. A full litre of draught was typically required to begin the transformation required for magical aptitude. Many would have to try multiple times, as vomiting part of the way through was pretty common. Arcane abilities would often surface a week after imbibing the draught. A few individuals would try in quick succession and that can trigger what is known as Mind Fire Corruption. Such corruption can occur at times without overuse, usually seen as a weakness to the draught.
Sorcerers may also imbibe this and it can occasionally boost their innate magic , though that isn't always guaranteed. Warlocks will imbibe hoping to obtain magic from various sources. Priests and holy men often avoid the liquid as it seems to interfere with their diving magics. Similarly it can have disastrous effects of those with ley line magic, such as the druids.
