Mind Fire Corruption

Mind Fire Corruption is most typically associated with over imbibing Mindfire Draught. It inherits it's name from the draught. However there are documented cases that individuals can be affected by a number of other rare arcane phenomena. The crystal caves of the deep powers are one such location, though most would find it difficult to survive the trip to those caves and back.

Symptoms

Within two to three days there is intense crippling pain. This lasts for only four hours or so, followed by the skin changing color drastically. The color is specific to the speicies affected. Humans being a green tint, elves a purple one, and the short races all turn a bright yellow.
Sometimes after four to seven days of color they return to physical normality yet with some mental or psychological condition. Other times they begin to die, while still other times they develop some strange malady or physical deformity as their skin returns to normal. Physical deformities include permanent horns, pustules, appendages, glowing or void like eyes, among other strange transformations. These are resistant to clerical magic and have rarely been able to be cured. Mental conditions can include a loss of linguistic skill, or the sudden ability to speak an unknown language, it can also result in a mental vegetable state or the ability to sense magic at a distance.

Treatment

Treatment for pain is quite successful, but the resulting transformations are rarely fixed without limb amputation or other equally harsh procedures.

Affected Groups

Some species seem to be unaffected by the corruption. These include the Yith and Yoronith. Dwarves are less likely than others to develop the corruption but gnomes and elves seem particularly prone to the corruption.

Cultural Reception

In part due to this condition resulting in superficially similar affects to the The Plague of Silmora it is feared. Most affected will hide their maladies. Those affected are often considered part of the outcast Touched and avoid notice in most nations.
