Howlite Dwarves

Names are two part, the first being a gemstone. The second part is the name of a tool. For examples; Saphire Sheer, Amethyst Bowl, or Diamond Hammer.

As most communities are small and there is not a lot of movement between them, there is not as much need for family names. They will use either professions or home location. The Hollows have districts, so they might be known as Silver Elbow of Low Spires the Smith.

By most they are considered unsophisticated, though they have a natural affinity for stone and have some unusual abilities often present. Nearly nothing is wasted and any sophistication for any reason can be seen as a waste.

Loincloths for most work and Fungal Leather for tasks that could be dangerous. The underground location means little issue in terms of weather, leading to little need for clothing. They also prefer to display their rich tattoos to each other.

Small rooms for retaining heat, as part of larger multi-family dwellings are the norm. Usually located near the Trifold stones . These are the source of comfort and life in the deep, and are closely guarded and kept near each district or community.

The food is bland, comprising mostly of mushroom mush, deep algae, and blind fish paste. They are most interested in other foods when they can get them.

Tattoos are a fine art, and they will accumulate them throughout their life. The first tattoo is an important time for a Howlite as it represents their comming of age in society. A tattoo artist is an honored profession among them. A dwarf is considered aged if they have no space left to tattoo on their body.

Some tattoos are symbolic of their family, while others their profession and great works.

Strength and muscles are prioritized for all. Power in men is also generally coveted, espeically of the magical variety.

The Hollows of Fire and Earth are the nations of the Howlite Dwarves. They were initially enslaved populations working at the behest of the Yoronith . Their enclaves eventually rebelled and lost the ability to communicate with one another. The known Hollows are named after stones; Periodite, Obsidian, Red Basalt, and Rhyolite.

Each Hollow is rules by the local most powerful Elementalist or Spirit Medium. They then assign deputies to work on their behalf. Most of the work is hard as survival is not easy in the deeps.

The worship of their god Atil Runo includes a worship of the strength of stone, and the veneration of ancestors. They have one of the few traditions that creates sentient undead with select spirits of their ancestors. The process is uncertain and only sometimes works. When it succeeds to produce a sentient undead, they are often revered as an elder in their community.
